Psych 4 is taking too long to get made, and James Roday Rodriguez recently revealed why, while answering a reader's question for TV Line.
"Our creative team is ready and have been ready but, unfortunately, it takes two to tango. If the fans really want to make some noise, they should direct their energy towards the Cock."
James Roday Rodriguez has co-led this comedy universe since its inception with Dulé Hill. Rodriguez starred as Shawn Spencer, who pretended to be a psychic to solve investigative cases with his friend and business partner Burton Guster (Hill). This police procedural show is one of the most beloved on the cable network. It ran for eight seasons between 2006 and 2014.
After its conclusion, the show's creator Steve Franks reportedly shared his plan for 5 follow-up movies. 3 of them have already been made and premiered between 2017 and 2021. After the third film, the fans must have been hoping to see Spencer and Gus come back to the screens. However, it has since been delayed for a number of reasons. According to the reports, it has not even gone on the floors yet.
Psych 4: When will the fourth film, starring James Roday Rodriguez and Dulé Hill, be available on Peacock?
Back in 2023, after the release of Psych 3, James Roday Rodriguez told TV Line that Psych 4 was supposed to enter the production stage in 2022. He clarified why that did not happen.
“The only reason that Psych 4 didn’t happen last year was scheduling. It was all lined up, and we would’ve made an announcement, but then we just couldn’t pull it together in time with everybody going off to do [other projects]. So, now we just kind of have to regroup, wait for Peacock to decide that they want to pay for it again, and hopefully, we’ll be good.”
Later, in a July 2024 interview with Screenrant, a cast member revealed that the Psych 4 movie has been delayed because of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. He said that the cast and crew were supposed to start filming it in 2023. However, that plan did not materialize due to these unforeseen circumstances.
He also pointed out a logistical issue after US Network handed over the production to Peacock for further projects. So, the future of Psych 4 reportedly lies in the hands of Peacock.
It is unclear when Psyche will start filming or when it will be available to stream. Still, James Roday Rodriguez's recent comments offer hope for the fans of Spencer and Gus's comedic rapport that they will return to the screens someday.
