Mike Tyson, 58, loves pigeons and often expresses his liking for these birds in several interviews. In an exclusive conversation with People Magazine, the former professional boxer revealed owning many pigeons.

"I own hundreds of pigeons. I own some in California and New Jersey. I have some in Florida. I have some in Vegas. I have hundreds, maybe a thousand."

His admiration for pigeons did not start in the past few years. Instead, he has been quite attached to these birds since his childhood.

He shared:

"My whole life has pretty much started over pigeons, my whole developmental life. I was 11 years old when pigeons got me into fighting."

He also continued:

"Pigeons got me out of trouble, pigeons got me into trouble, and it's just been my whole life."

In January 2022, Mike Tyson took to Instagram to talk about his adoration for these birds since he was a kid and shared their significance.

"I Always loved pigeons ever since I was a child. They teach us the importance of being compassionate. I created Iron Pigeons to share the deep love for these birds with my fans."

Mike Tyson spoke about having almost a thousand pigeons

Tyson is so fond of them that he called them "the first loving relationship," according to his blog for the New York Times. Over the years, he has become more and more affectionate to these birds and has begun owning more of them.

The boxer said exclusively to the People Magazine,

"I've done pigeons longer than I've done anything — boxing and everything."

Talking about boxing and the birds, he shared,

"Boxing is over and pigeons are still here."

Mike Tyson is busy with his recent campaign for Dr. Squatch. And for this wonderful project, he is excited to see his pigeons' cameo in it.

Speaking further about the birds and the campaign, he continued:

"Most of anything I do, they're in. Just a day in my life."

In 2011, Mike wrote for the New York Times and clarified why pigeons captivate him so much. He wrote,

"The answer is simple. It’s because they aren’t difficult to understand. Unlike human beings that have the capacity to manipulate and deceive one another, they are basically animals of habit. If you treat them well, feed them, give them safe housing and lots of love, you can expect a good relationship with them."

Per a Men's Journal report, Mike Tyson flew all the way to a local village in Poland to get around a hundred pigeons from a dealer. According to the Instagram account TeamHypeTalk, he visited Piątnica for these birds in 2023.

Per a report by Daily Mail, veterinary officials traveled to this village in Poland to vaccinate the birds. This step was crucial to export them to the US.
