Why didn't Meghan Markle film Netflix's 'With Love, Meghan' at her real home? Duchess of Sussex says she wanted to protect her kids

Former actress and Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, has an interesting response to why she didn’t film the Netflix reality series With Love, Meghan at her place.

Speaking at the TIME100 summit in New York City, CEO of Time, Jessica Sibley, shared that what she appreciated most about the show was how it included not just the main cast but also their family, friends, and the crew.

Reflecting on the show and the reason she didn’t film it in her house, Meghan Markle said she did not want her children to have the memory of a crowded kitchen. She said:

“It's like, well my kids are coming home for their nap and 80 people in the kitchen isn't really the childhood memory I would love for them to have. So, we were really fortunate to find something close by.”

She went on:

“But I think look all of that is part of how I take care of myself and tapping into what really ignites my joy is part of that and being creative has really really been anchored in that for this moment.”

Jessica Sibley asked Meghan Markle how she managed self-care as a CEO, recognizing that while the role came with glamour, it also involved hard work. Meghan explained that caring for others was part of what helped her take care of herself.

For her, giving to others in a meaningful way didn’t leave her drained but gave her energy. She used an example about planning a cooking or crafting show, saying she wanted to make sure it didn’t feel like the old-fashioned kind of show.

Meghan Markle explained that her podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder, matched perfectly with what she was building in her life at that time, especially alongside her brand and series.

She believed it was fascinating to hear someone talk through the process of building a business in real-time, including all the unexpected changes and challenges that came with it.

One example she shared from the podcast was her focus on the unboxing experience. Meghan Markle was concerned with how the packaging would look and feel because, to her, presentation and hospitality mattered a lot.

She recalled asking for the box dimensions and eventually, when she got them, she still felt the need to test everything herself. So, she ordered different materials online and worked in her kitchen to recreate the packaging until she figured out the right size and setup. Meghan Markle said:

“But the confession of that is that's not glamorous. That's not what I don't I think people imagine I'm doing in my kitchen but it's important and a lot of those are revealed throughout the eight episodes of the series.”

Meghan Markle shared that she felt more happiness than ever before. She appreciated having a supportive husband and was thankful for their children, who were healthy, joyful, and able to enjoy the safety and freedom that their parents worked hard to provide.

Looking back at everything she had been through, she hadn’t expected to reach a point in life where she would feel so content and thankful.
