Meghan Markle has surprised her fans with a New Year's update. The Duchess of Sussex has rejoined social media after almost seven years of deleting her original accounts.

For the uninitiated, Meghan Markle was quite active on social media while running a blog named The Tig. She deleted all articles in April 2017.

Later that year, in November, King Charles III (then the Prince of Wales) announced Markle's engagement with his son Prince Harry. Two months after the engagement, the former actress deleted her social media accounts.

In May 2018, the royal couple married at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle. Initially, they shared the @kensingtonroyal account with Prince Willian and Princess Kate Middleton.

A year after their wedding, Harry and Meghan launched a joint Instagram handle, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex (@sussexroyal). The account posted all information about the couple, including their statements and pictures.

However, the account stopped updating after Harry and Meghan stepped down as senior Royal Family members.

On January 9, 2020, the couple announced they would step away from the roles of 'senior' members of the Royal Family. In a joint statement, they shared:

"After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as 'senior' members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen."

Following their decision, their @sussexroyal continued operating for a few months. In March 2020, the account posted its last post confirming Harry and Meghan's farewell.

This time around, Meghan Markle has created her solo Instagram account. On January 1, 2025, Markle launched a brand-new Instagram handle, @meghan, while uploading a short clip of her writing "2025" on a beach.

The couple was previously the subject of a Netflix documentary series, Harry & Meghan. They are also parents to Archie (5) and Lilibet (3). Before her marriage to the Duke of Sussex, Markle was actively working as an actress and appeared on Suits, Anti-Social, Horrible Bosses, and many more TV and movie productions. Her first marriage with American film producer Trevor Engelson lasted three years (between 2011 and 2014).
