According to a recent article by Newsweek, renowned politician Kamala Harris was about to make an appearance at the Academy Awards held recently. However, there was a change of plans.
As the red carpet was being rolled out for the Academy Awards 2025, Deadline reported that security arrangements were increased at the Dolby Theatre in anticipation of Kamala Harris's arrival. According to the website, an official told them that the expected attendance of the former vice president was one of the reasons for heightening the security arrangements. He told Deadline
“We live in a new evolving security environment. The expected attendance of the former vice president is a major factor in the added security.”
The outlet revealed that it was due to security concerns that Harris decided to stay home. Her team decided to skip the Oscars instead of attending. Kamala's husband, Douglas Emhoff, also took to X, where he shared a post of Kamala emptying some snacks in a bowl to watch the Oscars on Television.
The Oscar appearance would have been an important attendance for Harris as this would have been her first high-profile appearance since Donald Trump took office in 2024. After her defeat in the 2024 elections, Harris has kept a low profile and hasn't been spotted much.
She was recently seen attending the NAACP Awards on February 22. At the awards, Harris was also honored for her contributions to the society. The last speech that Harris gave was her 2024 election concession speech on November 6 at Howard University. According to Elle Magazine, Harris said in her speech that the motive of this speech is not to win elections but to never give up and keep fighting for America. She said -
“The outcome of this election is not what we wanted, not what we fought for, not what we voted for, but hear me when I say: The light of America’s promise will always burn bright, as long as we never give up and as long as we keep fighting.”
She added that the fight is for freedom, opportunity, fairness, and dignity of Americans and that the fight is for the nation.
“While I concede this election, I do not concede the fight that fueled this campaign. The fight for freedom, for opportunity, for fairness, and the dignity of all people. A fight for the ideals at the heart of our nation, the ideals that reflect America at our best. That is a fight I will never give up.”
She concluded her speech by saying there isn't time for despair but to stay engaged for freedom and justice and building the future of America.
“To everyone who is watching, do not despair. This is not a time to throw up our hands; this is a time to roll up our sleeves. This is the time to organize, to mobilize, and to stay engaged for the sake of freedom and justice and the future that we all know we can build together.”
According to an article by Newsweek, Harris signed a deal with the entertainment company Creative Arts Agency with Former President Joe Biden. The firm also represents Barack Obama and Michelle Obama. With this agreement, there are speculations that Harris might be attending more events from now.
