Actor and singer John Stamos has come under fire after he showed solidarity with his former Full House co-star Dave Coulier, who was recently diagnosed with cancer. Stamos extended a gesture of support to him by wearing a bald cap, as seen from the pictures shared on his Instagram on November 19, 2024.
In the pictures, Dave Coulier posed with a shaved head while Stamos donned an immaculate bald cap. Although his gesture received support and love from social media users, he also received backlash from some others. Some of the comments that John Stamos received on Instagram are:
“So he's not really supporting him. He's posing for a photo op.”
“What a shallow gesture! Couldn't even cut your hair off for your friend. And you made sure to post it on Instagram to get those likes too.”
“Seriously just couldn’t shave your head bro ?? lol.”
Meanwhile, others defended John Stamos suggesting possible reasons he couldn’t cut his hair like because of his acting commitments.
“Awwww this is so cute … also, to anyone in the comments.. if Dave isn’t offended by this, you shouldn’t be either and remember .. John is an actor and may need his hair for his JOB. This should be a space filled with positivity and hope.. take the negativity elsewhere.”
“Oh, people - what’s more important? That he shave his head or that he’s actually there for him?”
“As someone who has had cancer three times I NEVER wanted anyone to shave their head for me. I think this is great and hilarious and I’m sure Dave didn’t really want him to shave his head.”
According to a People Magazine exclusive from November 13, 2024, Dave Coulier was diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma. It happened in October 2024 following a respiratory infection that led to the swelling of his lymph nodes.
John Stamos mentioned that Dave Coulier handled his cancer journey with strength and positivity
In the caption of the pictures shared on Instagram, John Stamos wrote that he wore the bald cap and used Photoshop to express his love and solidarity for Dave Coulier. He found it inspiring how Coulier managed the difficult times with strength and positivity. John Stamos wrote,
“You’re handling this with so much strength and positivity—it’s inspiring. I know you’re going to get through this, and I’m proud to stand with you every step of the way. I love you.”
Coulier mentioned to People Magazine that as his swelling worsened till it grew to the size of a golf ball, his doctor recommended PET and CT scans along with a biopsy. He described the experience as overwhelming, as what he thought was a minor cold turned out to be cancer.
He shared the news with his Full House castmates via a group message which he sent to John Stamos, Candace Cameron Bure, Andrea Barber, and Jodie Sweetin, among others, as per the magazine outlet. Dave Coulier began chemotherapy two weeks after his diagnosis.
He also shared his journey on his podcast Full House Rewind with Marla Sokoloff, saying that he chose to face the situation openly and by inspiring others with his experience.
