President Donald Trump's minor stint on Chris Columbus's Home Alone 2 was one of the most talked-about moments in the film. The less than ten-second clip of Kevin asking his way around the Plaza Hotel to none other than the hotel owner, Trump himself, soon became a viral moment after its release. However, more than three decades after the clip's release, Columbus is now voicing his reasons for why he wishes he could remove it from the film.
Needless to say, the Trump administration has faced its share of criticism from Hollywood's big names, and Columbus, who has endorsed the Democratic Party in the past, is no different. Speaking to the San Francisco Chronicle, the filmmaker opened up about how he wishes he could cut Trump out of the scene but joked that he's afraid to do so as he might get deported.
“It’s become this curse. It’s become this thing that I wish it was not there. It’s become an albatross for me. I just wish it was gone. I can’t cut it. If I cut it, I’ll probably be sent out of the country. I’ll be considered sort of not fit to live in the United States, so I’ll have to go back to Italy or something."
It's not the first time the filmmaker has opened up on Trump's cameo in the film. In another 2020 interview, Columbus told Business Insider that Trump added it as a condition to let them shoot at the Plaza Hotel in exchange for a cameo.
“We paid the fee, but he also said, ‘The only way you can use the Plaza is if I’m in the movie’. So we agreed to put him in the movie, and when we screened it for the first time the oddest thing happened: People cheered when Trump showed up on screen. So I said to my editor, ‘Leave him in the movie. It’s a moment for the audience.’”
What has Donald Trump said about his cameo on Home Alone 2?

The President has a completely different stance on his little appearance as he told fans through his site Truth Social that the team was persistent on his cameo and that he helped the movie become a success. Trump wrote,
“I was very busy, and didn’t want to do it. They were very nice, but above all, persistent. I agreed, and the rest is history! That little cameo took off like a rocket, and the movie was a big success.”
He further added,
“Now, however, 30 years later, Columbus (what was his real name?) put out a statement that I bullied myself into the movie. Nothing could be further from the truth. That cameo helped make the movie a success.”
Home Alone 2 is available to stream on Prime Video.
