Don Lemon and Jamie Lee Curtis have announced they will be taking their leave on 'X' following President-elect Donald Trump's announcement that the platform's owner, Elon Musk, will now serve in his administration.

While Curtis took to Instagram on Wednesday to share a screenshot of the "your account is deactivated" message, Lemon shared a reel on the same. In it, he outlined the reasons behind his departure.

Regardless, fans were less than amused. Many took to X to point out that they may have been overreacting, and that it was all just a ploy for attention. Here's what one user said:

"Why even announce? Just bounce."

Several concurred:

"It's not an airport. No need to announce your departure," one fan joked.
"These people need to just leave. They don't need to announce because no one cares," another pointed out.
"I bet yall $20 they will disappear for a bit and then come back lol," someone else claimed.
"I’ll never understand why celebrities announce this. Like honestly, who cares? What response are they hoping to get from this? And why not just delete it and answer questions later if someone asks? It’s such a narcissistic display over something so stupid," another opined.

However, some were of the opinion that the two were doing the right thing. So far, the public opinion remains divided:

"Don Lemon and Jamie Lee Curtis both leaving Twitter/X is definitely a big move! It shows how some public figures are distancing themselves from the platform for various reasons. Will be interesting to see how their departure impacts the conversation around social media," one user stated.
"Looks like Don Lemon and Jamie Lee Curtis have both decided it’s time to hit the eject button on Twitter. Guess they finally realized that leaving the platform is the closest thing Twitter has to a “peaceful mode.” Maybe they’ve both just reached the ultimate zen of social media: logging out and not looking back. Honestly, at this point, leaving Twitter feels like graduating. You wave goodbye, delete the app, and breathe a sigh of relief until you remember you’re still subscribed to the rest of the internet," another commented.
"I never knew they were on it," somebody else dissed.
"This is insane!! What is Twitter/X going to do without Don Lemon and Jamie Lee Curtis. Thankfully they announced this super important message to give everyone a heads up, we all needed to know this. I’m shocked and scared for the future!!" one user penned, sarcastically.

Jamie Lee pens a prayer following her departure from X, while Don Lemon claims X is no longer useful to him

On Jamie Lee Curtis' Instagram post, she penned a simple prayer:

"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. Courage to change the things I can. And the wisdom to know the difference."

As for Don Lemon, who shares a contentious relationship with X-owner Elon Musk, he said in the reel:

"I have loved connecting with all of you on Twitter and then on X for all of these years, but it’s time for me to leave the platform. I once believed it was a place for honest debate and discussion, transparency, and free speech, but I now feel it does not serve that purpose.”

He also alluded to X's new terms of service, which come into effect this Friday. It asserts that all legal disputes to be "brought exclusively in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas or state courts located in Tarrant County, Texas."

"As the Washington Post recently reported on X’s decision to change the terms, this ‘ensures that such lawsuits will be heard in courthouses that are a hub for conservatives, which experts say could make it easier for X to shield itself from litigation and punish critics,'” Lemon said. “I think that speaks for itself.”

Don Lemon and Jamie Lee are not the only ones to quit using 'X'. Just this Wednesday, November 14, the U.K. newspaper The Guardian announced its departure from the same. With over a million followers across 80 accounts, the outlet claimed the "benefits of being on X are now outweighed by the negatives."
