According to reports, she left/was written off Melrose Place after appearing in about 13 episodes due to "some tension" on the set. She shared with US Weekly that

Our show was an automatic season and they sort of made the decision that I didn’t fit what they were going for after the 12 episodes had already aired...A lot of people liked Sandy, but maybe I was a little too campy.

According to The Guardian, Amy Locane reportedly left the film industry in 2006 because she 'was sick of the industry and disappointed with her career.' She also got engaged around that time. Her life took a drastic turn when, on June 27, 2010, she was involved in a DUI that killed a 60-year-old woman, Helene, and seriously injured Helene's husband, Fred Seeman.

As a result of the incident, she was convicted of second-degree vehicular homicide and assault and was incarcerated from 2013 to 2015. According to The Guardian, she was sentenced to three years by Judge Robert B. Reed, who reportedly took into consideration that she was unlikely to repeat the crime and cited that she has two young daughters, with the younger one suffering from IBD.

Though she was released in 2015, she was resentenced for the same crime and spent four more years, from 2020 to 2024, in jail, as her first sentencing was reportedly deemed too lenient. Locane was released from prison in December 2024.

According to the publication, Locane previously shared about the guilt she feels about her actions.

To this day, I have a lot of remorse. It’s a very, very, very heavy, heavy reality to live with(...)When I’m praying or when I do daily devotionals every morning, I just try to keep her in mind. And that acknowledgement makes me feel like I am aware of her and my day.

In 2020, she was resentenced to eight years in prison, as her previous sentencing was deemed too lenient.

She was released from Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women in December 2024. Talking with US Weekly about her life after prison, Amy Locane shared her guilt regarding the pain she caused both her family and the victim's family, navigating changes, and her relationship with her daughters. The publication further reports that she currently works at the front desk of a doctor's office and lives in New Jersey.
