NATAS made the announcement on January 8, noting that the change was made due to the News and Documentary being moved to June.

"For nearly half a century, the News & Documentary Emmys have honored the best in broadcast journalism and documentary programming," NATAS President & CEO, Adam Sharp said in a statement. "Moving the ceremony earlier in the Emmy schedule shines a brighter light on the timely nature of the incredible content being recognized."

The nomination process for the News & Documentary Emmys begins on Thursday, January 9, 2025, for the June ceremony. There has been no date or nomination timeline announced for the Daytime Emmys as of yet.

The first ever Emmys for daytime achievement were presented as part of the Primetime Emmys. The Doctors won for Best Daytime Drama, while All My Children's Mary Fickett (Ruth Martin) won for Best Daytime Drama Performance.

Two years later, the first-ever Daytime Emmy Awards took place in New York City, the same day as the Primetime Emmys. In subsequent years, the Daytime Emmys were held at various New York locations, including the Waldorf-Astoria, the Marriott Marquis, and Radio City Music Hall. For years, it took place in the middle of the summer, but it moved to late spring in the 1990s.

In 2006, the Daytime Emmys moved to Los Angeles and took place at the Kodak Theater. In 2010 and 2011, Las Vegas played host to the ceremony until it moved back to Los Angeles, where they have been held ever since.

In 2023, the 50th Annual Daytime Emmys had to be postponed due to the Writers Guild of America strike. The ceremony was supposed to take place in May but ended up being postponed until December to respect the striking writers and not use scabs for the host and presenter scripts. Susan Lucci took home the Lifetime Achievement Award that year.

Just six months later, the 51st Annual Daytime Emmys took place on June 7, with soap fans and members of the daytime industry thinking they were back on track after a year of strikes. Now, we will have to wait until fall to see who will bring home the gold.
