Winnie Harlow, the famous Canadian model and entrepreneur, has always been open when it comes to her bond and relationship with her family and their heritage. Born as Chantelle Whitney Brown-Young in Mississauga, Ontario, Harlow was born into a family with Jamaican heritage.
Winnie Harlow's mom, the person she credits a great deal of her influence and success to, is Lisa Brown. According to the Daily Mail, Harlow’s early years were pivotal, and Lisa, a former hairdresser, was a major influence on her.
Harlow has posted throwback pictures of her mom on social media, stating that Lisa Brown had a knack for fashion and also tried working as a model when she was younger.
Even though very little is known about her father, Windsor Young, as he has stayed out of the public eye, Harlow has previously expressed appreciation for having him in her life. She recently shared pictures from her childhood, including visits to her father’s mechanic garage in Jamaica. She also has a sister named Christina.
Winnie Harlow has also spoken out about the influence her grandparents had on her life. As the daughter of immigrant parents, she has spoken to the sacrifices that her grandparents made to afford opportunities for their family.
Harlow opened up about how special it was to celebrate the launch of her skincare brand, Cay Skin, in Canada with her family. She said:
"To see their faces as their entrepreneur granddaughter builds her brand and brings it home, unmatched by anything I've ever accomplished. Thank you, mom, dad, grandmas and grandpas for building this young Canadian-Jamaican's heart, spirit and soul for greatness. Canada to Jamaica and Jamaica to di' world."
According to Our Today, it was her Jamaican culture that inspired the brand Cay Skin, which she founded based on memories as a child of seeing her mother apply aloe vera to her skin and her father making sure she was protected from the sun.
An article by Our Today also stated that Harlow has also made sure to introduce her partner, NBA player Kyle Kuzma, to her roots by taking him to Jamaica.
