During his appearance on the Club Shay Shay podcast, Damon Wayans shared that his mother would make him and his siblings kiss whenever they fought, ensuring that they never repeated the behavior again.

Damon Wayans reveals new details about the unique way his mother raised him and his siblings

Comedian Damon Wayans, in his appearance on the Club Shay Shay podcast hosted by Shannon Sharpe, offered a peek into the unique disciplinary techniques adopted by his mother to keep him and his siblings in line. He said:

"I learned how to tongue kiss with Marlon. Once you kiss your brother in the mouth, you don't want to fight anymore. We'll take this, we'll go outside. We'll find a place to finish this."

This is not the first time "The Last Boy Scout" actor, whose mother passed away on 23 July 2020, has spoken about her unconventional parenting methods. In a 2015 appearance on The Breakfast Club, hosted by Charlamagne, DJ Envy, and Angela Yee, the actor recalled something his mother would tell him and his siblings.

"Nothing should come between you and your brothers.”

He further explained during his conversation with Shannon Sharpe, much to the shock of the host, that because of the technique enforced by his mother, the brothers were always aware of the consequences their actions. Moreover, he mentioned that even today he and his siblings remain very affectionate with each other, and don't shy away from giving one another a kiss.

"To this day, we all kiss. Because you never know what's going to happen when they walk out the door."

He further adds, while referring to his mother:

"You ask what did she give us? She gave us love. She was the heartbeat of this family. And she taught us how to love. And you know sometimes she didn't practice what she preached, but [she taught us] how to get past grudges, 'that's your brother,' 'that's your sister,' you love them. Cause for the rest of your life they are gonna be your brother and sister. That's what my mother gave us. Love."

On the podcast, Damon Wayans also spoke about how his father, who passed away in 2023, raised him and how the discipline that his father instilled in him continues to influence him even today.

"I stole 15 cents from my father and he missed it. I'm like, 'I don't ever want to be this poor.' He followed me down the stairs like a school bully and threw me against the wall, [and asked] ' Where my money' I know I took no dollars. Then my father searched me.[and said] 'that's my nickle' He beat on the stairs like a dude off the street. Like I said, I don't ever want to be that poor that I miss 15 cents. But that's with me today. That's part of my motivation."

Damon Wayans further shared his opinions and lesser known facts about various celebrities, like the late Robin Williams, whom he accused of allegedly stealing jokes. He said:

"Robin Williams' manager used to walk around with a checkbook. Robin would come off stage, and a comedian would be like, 'Hey, he just took my joke.' He would write him a check for $75. ... He would steal material. He was known."

Damon further spoke about what motivated him to audition for SNL. He said:

"I grew up watching Richard Pryor, on SNL, him with Lily Tomlin, playing the drunk, and [I ]was like wow. He is bringing our flavor to the show, cause before it was white."

Wayans addedz, reflecting on the reality of his short stint at SNL:

"I would write sketches and they would shoot it down. This dude would like sit in front of me and go 'I just dont get it.' I just got tired of getting short down... I kept getting shot down, so I just didn't care."

During the podcast, Damon Wayans also reflected on discovering comedian Jim Carrey, whose big break came from starring in the comedy series, "In Living Color," created by Damon's brother, Keenan Wayans.
