Steve Mensch, president and general manager at Tyler Perry Studios died in a plane crash on the evening of Dec 6 in Homosassa, Florida. He was 62.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, Mensch was flying a single-passenger Vans RV-12 aircraft in Tampa Bay. He was the sole occupant in the plane and was announced dead at the sight. However, the cause of the crash is being investigated by the local authorities.

Confirming the news, Tyler Perry Studios remembered Mensh as an integral part of their team who worked with them for more than eight years.

"We are incredibly saddened by the passing of our dear friend Steve Mensch. Steve was a cherished member of our team for more than eight years and well-beloved in the community of Atlanta.” The studio said in a statement.
“It's hard to imagine not seeing him smiling throughout the halls. We will miss him dearly. Our heart goes out to his family as we all send them our prayers." It concluded.

Mensch had been working with the Tyler Perry Studios since 2016. He was instrumental in transforming Georgia into a hub of film and television production. According to his LinkedIn profile, he managed day-to-day operations at the 300-acre studio, which is considered the first major motion picture studio in Atlanta, Georgia. He worked as the president of the Third Rail Studios for 5 months between February 2016 and June 2016.

Tyler Perry, the first African American to own a production house in the U.S., remembered the late pilot in an emotional post on Instagram, “Steve Mensch was truly a kind soul and a great leader at the studio. We all adored him and are devastated that he’s gone. I’m praying for his family as we all try to make sense of this heartbreak.”

Georgia Governor Brian P. Kemp took to X, to pay his tributes and praised him in his post. He wrote:

“A good man and an instrumental part of a studio Georgia is proud to call its own, his achievements made our state better and brought more opportunities to its people,” Kemp wrote. “His loved ones and the entire Tyler Perry Studios team will be in our thoughts and prayers as they mourn this loss.”
“Devastated to learn of the death of friend and colleague, @stevemensch11. Our community was made so much richer by all of the ways that he engaged and I was proud to bring him onto the board of directors of the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival. May his memory serve always as a blessing.” Ambassador Michèle Taylor, U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations Human Rights Council wrote on X.
"Shocked by the tragic loss of Steve Mensch. He was a valued member of the Governor’s Film, Music, and Digital Entertainment Advisory Board which I chair. A voice of reason, he never failed to help out when needed . He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family." Terry Rogers, Rogers Strategies LLC said on X.

For the unversed, Tyler Perry opened the Studios in 2019 in Atlanta but the company was established in 2006. The studio includes a replica of the White House, which is a 16,000-square-foot mansion, a mock cheap hotel, a commercial plane a real 1950s-style diner, according to a report in the Independent.
