Rapper Lil Durk has been hit with yet another twist in his legal troubles, now as prosecutors are accusing him of a 2022 murder-for-hire plot, atop a similar charge from 2023.

As reported by USA Today, the Grammy-winning rapper has been accused of funding the killing of Stephon Mack, 24, in Chicago on January 27, 2022. Mack was suspected to be the leader of a local gang, the Smashville faction of the Gangster Disciples, and reportedly, prosecutors claim his murder was an act of retaliation.

Lil Durk allegedly hired men to take out Stephon Mack, here's what we know

Back in 2022, Stephon Mack was exiting the Youth Peace Center of Roseland, located on the 400 block of West 111th Street, when two gunmen exited their vehicle and opened fire, effectively killing him. A security guard was caught in the crossfire but survived.

At the time of his death, as reported by the Chicago Tribune, Mack served as leader of the Smashville gang of the Gangster Disciples. Per CBS News, investigators are under the impression that Mack's homicide was revenge for the slaying of Lil Durk's brother, though Durk has yet to be charged with Mack's murder.

As reported by USA Today, an affidavit written in April, 2023, claims that:

"Lil Durk was and still is offering money for people to kill those responsible for his brother's murder, and more specifically, offering to pay money for any Gangster Disciple that is killed."

Durk's brother, Dontay Banks, Jr., was shot to death outside a nightclub back in June 2021, and per the Chicago Tribune, another Gangster Disciples linked to Smashville executed the murder.

Durk, however, stands accused of hiring someone to take out rapper Quando Rondo. The latter was nearly slain in a shooting on August 18, 2022. He was in Los Angeles at the time, and while he narrowly missed the bullets, his cousin, 24-year-old Saviay'a Robinson was killed instead.

As for Stephon Mack's case, Anthony Montgomery-Wilson, 24, and Preston Powell, 23, have both been cuffed and charged with:

"conspiracy to use an interstate facility in the commission of a murder for hire, according to an indictment unsealed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Chicago," the United States Attorney's Office said in a press release.

They have also been charged with a murder-for-hire count each, while the former is now dealing with an additional firearm charge. As per the press release, the two men hatched a plan with each other and others to take out Stephon Mack, as doing so would get them paid.
