In a recently harrowing turn of events, Jillian Lauren-Shriner, author and wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, was shot by police in an altercation that took place near the couple's home in Los Angeles' Eagle Rock neighborhood.

She was injured by the Los Angeles police and arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after pointing a gun at officers from her front yard, authorities said Wednesday. Thankfully, there were no fatalities.

Jillian Lauren-Shriner’s Encounter Explained

In the incident in question, LAPD officers claim that they were assisting the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in their search for three suspects from a misdemeanor hit-and-run incident that occurred near the Eagle Rock area. They also confirmed that Lauren-Shriner was not suspected of any wrongdoing in the initial investigation.

However, while pursuing one of the suspects who had been identified, LAPD officers encountered Jillian in the front yard of her neighboring residence:

"As the officers were in the rear yard of that residence, they observed a female ... in the yard of a neighboring residence armed with a handgun".

As per the reports, the officers on site demanded she drop the gun “several times”, and Lauren went from outrightly refusing the officers’ demands to pointing the gun in their direction. Allegedly, it was at this point she was hit by police gunfire and fled back into her home.

Lauren-Shriner then came to her senses, surrendered to the police, and was subsequently taken into custody. A 9-millimeter handgun was recovered from Shriner’s home, the police statement said.

The Los Angeles Fire Department later brought the writer to seek medical attention, before she was ultimately booked for attempted murder on $1 million bail, per LA County jail records. One of the male suspects was cited and released from custody, the LAPD said in a statement. Two other suspects remain at large.

Updates as of yet

As of this report, Jillian Lauren-Shriner has not made a court appearance concerning the incident, nor is it immediately clear whether she has hired legal representation.

Author Lauren-Shriner released her autobiographical book Some Girls: My Life in a Harem in 2010. It chronicled accounts from her life between 1992 and 1995 when she operated as a paid female guest of Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei. Jillian and Scott Shriner married in Hawaii in 2005 and have two children.

There is no indication that husband Scott Shriner was involved in the incident. His LA-based band, Weezer recently celebrated the 30th anniversary of their Blue Album. Further, the incident with Lauren-Shriner comes just days ahead of Weezer's upcoming Coachella set on Saturday, April 12.
