Gossip Girl star Blake Lively is the daughter of Ernie and Elaine Lively, her father worked as an actor and director, and her mother worked as an actor and talent manager. Lively's husband, Ryan Reynolds's parents, Tammy and James "Jim" Chester Reynolds, on the other hand, are not involved in the Hollywood industry. Reynolds' father was a policeman and his mother worked in retail sales.
The couple has received backlash on social media after Ryan Reynolds told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published on December 13, that the two have been brought up "very working class." The actor was discussing his and Lively's parenting strategies, and how they protect their four kids from the limelight when he said,
"We try to give them as normal a life as possible. I try not to impose upon them the difference in their childhood to my childhood or my wife's childhood."
He then went on to add,
We both grew up very working class, and I remember when they were very young, I used to say or think, like, 'Oh God, I would never had a gift like this when I was a kid,' or, 'I never would've had this luxury of getting takeout', or whatever.
More about Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively's childhood
Ryan Reynolds' comment on calling his and Blake Lively's childhood "working class" had angered netizens with many people recalling Lively's breakthrough role as Bridget in The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants. Ernie Lively reportedly gave her first acting role and also played the role of on-screen father in the film.
While speaking to Radio Free Entertainment in a 2006 interview, Lively revealed that she grew up on sets,
"I've grown up on sets. My mom is a manager and always has kids come in for coaching, my family's always going over lines for an audition. I'm always stealing craft service. So it was so much of a part of my life that I never felt a desire for it. And it seemed like such a nightmare."
Her acting debut in the film Sandman was also directed by her father and her mother's job as a talent agent reportedly has also helped her launch her acting career.
Ryan Reynolds was the youngest of four boys to his parents. While speaking to Mr. Porter in 2018, the actor opened up about his late father who died in October 2015, saying his dad was a "tough guy" and "He was good in many ways as well, but he was tough on us."
