Ron Hale played the role of Dr. Roger Coleridge on the ABC soap opera Ryan's Hope. Hale passed away on August 27 at 78 in St. George, South Carolina, according to an obituary, though the cause of death remains unknown.
The soap opera series, which ran for more than a decade, revolved around the trials and tribulations of a large Irish-American family in Manhattan, New York City. Hale portrayed Roger in more than 900 episodes from 1975 to 1989, earning Daytime Emmy nominations in 1979 and 1980 for his outstanding performance.
Ron Hale received praise for his ability to convey subtle emotional shifts in the long-running soap opera. After his exit from Ryan's Hope, he went on to play Mike Corbin in General Hospital from 1995 to 2010. Hale left the series in 2010 to pursue his recreational interests.

In addition to starring in soap operas, Ron Hale also played one of the Watergate burglars in the 1976 Oscar-winning film All the President's Men and had cameo roles on shows like Matlock and MacGyver.
Hale's other film credits include Me, Natalie (1969), Trial By Jury (1994), The Lord Protector (1996), and Sunstorm (2001).
His final acting project was 2017's The Ghost and the Whale. He also performed on Broadway in William Saroyan’s play The Time of Your Life in 1968 and later appeared at the Trustus Theatre, which was founded by his late brother, Jim Thigpen Jr., and sister-in-law, Kay Thigpen.
General Hospital paid tribute to Hale on X (formerly Twitter) on October 3, saying:
"The entire General Hospital Family is saddened to hear of Ron's passing. We would like to extend our condolences to his loved ones during this difficult time. He was an incredible actor and an unforgettable colleague. May he rest in peace."
His co-star Billy Warlock, who played A.J. Morgan on General Hospital, tweeted:
"It's with a heavy heart that we've lost another great one. My dear friend Ron Hale has passed away. Ron was an amazing talent an even better friend. I will miss you."
Ron is survived by his nieces and nephews Lori Brown, Max Brabham, Erin Wilson, and Marc Brown.
