With the 2024 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony being broadcast, fans witnessed various music icons receiving the honor. The event has become a yearly tradition, religiously followed by rock & roll fans since its inception in 1986.

In the past four decades, numerous artists have been nominated for induction to the Hall of Fame, with as many as 27 artists being inducted multiple times. Legends like Tina Turner, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and Michael Jackson are some of the 27 multiple inductees. However, none have matched Eric Clapton's record of three Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions.

The celebrated English guitarist got his first induction in 1992 with The Yardbirds. The following year, Clapton was inducted again, but with Cream. As a solo artist, his final Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction came in 2000. Besides the most Hall of Fame inductions as a rock & roll artist, Clapton has as many as 18 Grammy Awards, including a lifetime achievement accolade.

Unlike Clapton and many other multiple inductees, many artists have been nominated on different occasions but didn't make it to the Hall of Fame. One such name is Chic, an American band that received 11 nominations until 2017 without any induction.

The 2024 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony took place in October last year

Besides the inductees, four acts received the "Musical Excellence Award," while three were honored with the "Music Influence Award." Suzanne de Passe got the Ahmet Ertegun Award in the non-performer category.

How do artists get inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

After 25 years of the release of their first record, artists/bands get eligible to be inducted into the "Performers" category. Once a performer/group gets eligible, they must be nominated by a committee that decides on the list of candidates for the specific year. The nominees are then voted on, and ultimately, the top names are considered for induction into that year's class.

In the history of rock & roll, only John Lennon (as a solo artist and with The Beatles) and Dave Grohl (with Nirvana and Foo Fighters) are two of the multiple inductees to have received the induction on the first nomination in their first year of eligibility.
