Julie Bowen played the role of the popular sitcom Modern Family, which ran from 2009 to its finale episode in 2020. Judy Greer, in a recent episode of the Dinner's On Me podcast, revealed that she turned down an audition for the role since she didn't want to be "America's Mom."

While talking to host Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who played the role of Mitchell Pritchett, Claire's brother, Judy revealed when the audition came to her, she was starting to play characters with children, and taking on another similar role felt limiting.

"In a movie, people kind of see it and then they forget. In a TV show, it's just like, you're a mom. That's it."

The actress mentioned that she didn't have kids in her life plan and decided not to audition for it.

"I was like, 'I'm not going to audition for it.' Iwas really torn about it, but I ended up obviously not. Who knows if I would have even gotten it anyway, but I was just like, 'I don't know if I want to be America's mom yet."

Greer added that the role "felt so limiting compared to what I was doing already" and that she wasn't "ready" for the role. She mentioned that it was "out of my career."

Although Greer eventually turned down the audition opportunity, she played a guest role in the show's first season as Denise, Phil Dunphy's ex-girlfriend.

More about Judy Greer's upcoming projects

Judy Greer had gained recognition in Hollywood for playing small roles or playing the main lead's best friend. As per Slate, an online shop named Super Yaki had been selling T-shirts and hats printed with the message, "Judy Greer should've been the lead."

Recently, the actor was seen in The Best Christmas Pageant Ever as the main lead in a story. She plays the role of a mother who takes on the challenge of directing the annual Christmas play in her church. The movie is based on a 1972 Children's book of the same name.

Other than the recent film, Greer has ten upcoming projects and counting. She will be seen in an adaptation of Stephen King's The Long Walk, an Emma Thompson action thriller, The Fisherwoman, Season 2 of Apple TV+'s The Last Thing He Told Me, and in the comedy; In Memoriam.
