Here's what we know about Pete Buttigieg’s husband, Chasten Buttigieg

According to a People Magazine report, Pete Buttigieg and Chasten Buttigieg met on Hinge in 2015. And after dating for around three years, the couple tied the knot on June 16, 2018. In August 2021, they adopted twins, a son and a daughter, Joseph August "Gus" and Penelope Rose.

Talking with People Magazine about enjoying a date night with his husband, Chasten shared,

"The older the kids get, the more date night has turned into takeout and Netflix."

He further added,

"Once you get them down and put up all the bath toys, you don't really want to put a suit on and go to an event."

During this interview, Chasten even revealed how Pete is at their home, especially with their children.

"Pete is really good about putting his phone down and flipping that switch."

Chasten started making headlines and staying in the spotlight after his open romantic association with his now-husband. For the 2020 election, Pete Buttigieg ran for President of the United States. He announced his decision the previous year and that he was creating an exploratory committee for the same.

Though he lost the election, he became a household name, and his relationship with Chasten and them representing the LGBTQ community was appreciated by many.

To support his husband during the election and campaigning process, Chasten decided to quit his teaching job. It was during this time that they started showing and speaking about their relationship in public.

Coming from a conservative family, coming out was not a simple step for Chasten. He left his parents' home and spent days at friends' places. In a 2018 conversation with The New York Times, he recalled those days, saying,

"I decided at 18 that I needed to come out. And I don’t recall my parents specifically saying I couldn’t live at home anymore, but I was made to believe I needed to leave."

However, his family supported and accepted his marriage to Pete Buttigieg.

While talking with The New York Times, Chasten’s mom, Sherri Glezman, shared,

"I don’t want to say we were shocked. But, from our perspective, I was sad for him that, having two brothers that were into every sport, as roughneck as it comes, Chasten would be afraid of being perceived as different, or not as much of a man."
