Donatella Versace has recently announced that she is stepping down from the role of Creative Director at Versace. Dario Vitale is taking over this position from April 2025. Donatella Versace will now serve as the Chief Brand Ambassador for Versace. In this new role, she will support Versace's various charitable initiatives.

Donatella has lived a life that was always under public scrutiny, especially after her brother's assassination. During those tumultuous years, Donatella was married to Paul Beck. She has two children, Allegra and Daniel, with him. Paul Beck was an American model, and their marriage lasted almost 17 years.

Who is Paul Beck, Donatella Versace's ex-husband? Who are their children?

Paul Beck was an American model who worked with Versace. Not much is known about the ex-model. Beck married Donatella in 1983, and the couple have two children, Allegra Versace and Daniel Versace. They separated in 2000 after seventeen years of marriage.

In a 2018 interview with SSENSE, Donatella shared that she continued to maintain a cordial relationship with her ex-husband.

"We have been separated—no, divorced—for 18 years. Paul lives in New York. I have a good relationship with him because he is the father of my children."

Allegra Versace

Allegra Versace is the eldest child of the former couple. She was born on 30 June 1986. Following the tragic death of her uncle, Gianni Versace, eleven-year-old Allegra inherited fifty percent of the company shares.

Despite her status as an heiress, she prefers to live a life away from the spotlight. She graduated from UCLA and Brown University with a degree in French, art history, and acting, according to Harper's Bazar.

In an interview with La Repubblica, Allegra shared that she was working with non-Italian designers at the time and enjoyed the anonymity that came with not being directly associated with Versace.

“I've spent some time working with a non-Italian designer, I've been helping him organize fashion shows, the advertising, also helping with the creative part. But the great part about this work is that I am no one."

During her interview with SSENSE, Donatella revealed that Allegra was working for Versus, a clothing line launched by Versace for a younger audience. Donatella said:

"She is highly intelligent and a very keen observer. Everyone pays rapt attention whenever she takes the floor at a board meeting — not because she owns half of the company, but because she asks the right questions.”

Daniel Versace

Daniel Versace was born to Paul Beck and Donatella Versace in 1989. Daniel is a musician and lives in London. In an interview with SSENSE, Donatella revealed that Daniel had chosen to not use the 'Versace" name. She said,

"He believes the name Versace would damage his integrity as a musician and give him an undeserved advantage. I don’t really understand that reasoning, because you’re either a good musician or a bad one. But it’s his life. He makes the decisions, and it seems they’re the right ones. You should see him at his performances. It’s rare to see a person whose music makes him so happy.”

According to The Guardian, unlike his sister, Daniel is not a stakeholder in the Versace business but inherited Gianni Versace's private collection after his death.

In a 2012 interview for Interview Magazine, Donatella talked about how important her family was to her.

"My family is the most important. I’m Italian, so you know that. I think it was harder when my children were little. But I try to spend as much quality time as I can with my family.”

Donatella Versace will be succeeded by Dario Vitale, who had previously worked with major brands, including Miu Miu and Bottega Veneta, where he served as the Head of Design and Image.

Donatella shared the news of this transition through an Instagram post. She wrote:

"Championing the next generation of designers has always been important to me. I am thrilled that Dario Vitale will be joining us, and excited to see Versace through new eyes. I want to thank my incredible design team and all the employees at Versace that I have had the privilege of working with for over three decades. It has been the greatest honor of my life to carry on my brother Gianni’s legacy. He was the true genius, but I hope I have some of his spirit and tenacity."

She continued,

"In my new role as Chief Brand Ambassador, I will remain Versace’s most passionate supporter. Versace is in my DNA and always in my heart."

Dario Vitale also expressed his gratitude, remarking that he looks forward to contributing to Versace's future.
