Patrick Adiarte, who played the character of Ho-Jon in the hit 1970s TV show MASH*, has passed away. Adiarte, who was eighty-two years old, died on Tuesday, 15 April from complications of pneumonia. The news of his passing was confirmed by his niece, Stephanie Hogan, in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
Patrick Adiarte was known for his appearances in several movies and TV shows in the 1960s and 1970s. But one of his most iconic roles came much before that, when he was the young Prince Chulalongkorn in the 1956 musical The King and I, adapted from the 1944 novel Anna and the King of Siam, written by Margaret Landon.

Patrick Adiarte was born on 2 August 1943 in the Philippines. When Adiarte was just two years old, his father, who worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, was killed, leaving him, his sister Irene, and his mother Purita in disarray. According to The Hollywood Reporter, during the early years of his life, the Flower Drum Song actor was imprisoned at Cebu Island by the Japanese during World War II.
In 1946, the family arrived in New York in search of a better life, and in 1952, the young Adiarte was cast as one of the children of King Mongkut in the Tony Award-winning stage production of The King and I. His other acting credits include The Brady Bunch, Kojak, High Time, It Takes a Thief, John Goldfarb, Please Come Home, Hullabaloo, Hawaii Five-O, and Bonanza, among many others.
Patrick Adiarte's sister, Irene, passed away in 2016, and he is now survived by his niece, Stephanie Devito Hogan, and nephew, Michael Hogan. Stephanie's husband announced the news of his passing on Instagram. He said:
"My wife Stephanie and her brother Michael lost their uncle, Patrick Adiarte, on Monday in California. He was their last uncle so please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Uncle Patrick was not only a relative, but he was also an entertainment and Hollywood legend. Actually called by many as the “Philippine Dancing Legend.”"
He further writes in the caption:
"From Broadway, to movies, television, choreography, photography, you name it, he could do it. You may not know the name, but I will guarantee you would know him if you are a fan of old musicals and classic TV. He danced with Gene Kelly, Fred Astair, was on TV shows with Bing Crosby, he was Ho–Jon, the Korean tent boy on M*A*S*H, the tour guide when the Bradys went to Hawaii on The Brady Bunch, and was in The King and I with Yul Brynner, The Flower Drum Song, and Hullabaloo, to name a few. Definitely a legend. RIP, Uncle Patrick!"
Apart from his iconic performances on screen, Adiarte was a versatile dancer. In what is now considered a legendary performance, Patrick Adiarte and Gene Kelly appeared on the NBC variety show Omnibus, where they performed a tap dancing set that is still loved by fans even today.
According to The Daily Mail, The Enchanted Nutcracker actor, until recently, continued to teach dance at Santa Monica College.
Patrick married singer Loni Ackerman in 1975. Not much is known about their marriage, but the couple divorced in 1992, after seventeen years of marriage.
