The Timothee Chalamet look-alike saga has taken yet another turn with the host being ordered to pay $500 as a penalty. Anthony Po organized the contest on October 27, with the actor crashing the event at one point. Po revealed that Chalamet later offered to pay for the penalty himself, but he declined.
Halfway through the day, the NYPD showed up and ordered the crowd to disperse from Washington Square Park. Po was then hit with a fine for hosting such a large-scale public event without filing for a permit. The 23-year-old, however, told People Magazine that the amount was a small price to pay compared to what he had to shell out for the event itself.
Organizer of the Timothee Chalamet look-alike contest says the actor's team thought it was "awesome"
Anthony Po, who goes by the username AnthPo online, told People Magazine:
"The production [cost] like $4,000, so it's like legit the best case scenario They need to do something stronger to [disincentivize] us."
He then revealed that his stint with the police went viral, prompting the Dune actor to reach out:
"They offered to pay the ticket, which is truly funny."
While he was appreciative, he revealed that he turned Timothee Chalamet down. Instead, Partiful, a virtual invitation app, incurred the fine.
The Timothee Chalamet look-alike contest played host to swarms of people flooding in from everywhere. It went viral online, spawning several more look-alike contests, including a Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, and Paul Mescal one. Po revealed that Chalamet's team was in good spirits about the contest:
"They basically [said] like, ‘We thought it was awesome. Thanks so much.’ It was all good and fun.”
Not long after the event, Po spoke to the Hollywood Reporter as he admitted that he was "in a stint of just trying to do public stunts, like performance art type stuff.”
“So me and Paige [his producer and assistant] just sit around all day and all day and think about like, what would be fun? What would get people talking? Wholesome fun things that are free for people to gawk at and tell their grandkids about,” he said.
He went on:
“And people always joke, I look like Timothée Chalamet. They call me ‘Less hot Timothée Chalamet,’ so we wanted to host a look-alike competition. And the original plan was for me to enter and us to rig it. But as it got bigger, we’re like, ‘This is kind of just bigger than me,’ so we wanted it to be just a fun, wholesome thing for the city.”
He revealed that he didn't expect Timothee Chalamet to show up and that he "really wanted him to compete, but it was so hectic that he couldn’t.” As the outlet reports, he was also unable to personally meet with the actor that day.
