Justin Theroux and actress Nicole Brydon Bloom have tied the knot in a private ceremony in Tulum, Mexico. "The Gilded Age" actress, who is the daughter of Melanie Bloom and renowned journalist David Bloom, looked stunning in a sleeveless, open-back, white wedding gown with a high slit, while Theroux was seen wearing a white tuxedo.
Nicole Brydon Bloom's father, David Bloom, passed away in 2003 while covering the Iraq war. The cause of his death was reported to be a pulmonary embolism caused by a blood clot starting out as a deep vein thrombosis. She has often shared heartfelt tributes in his memory and remains deeply connected to her mother and other siblings.
All we know about Nicole Brydon Bloom's parents
Nicole Brydon Bloom was born in 1994 to parents David Bloom and Melanie Bloom. The couple met in 1988, when David moved into the same apartment building where Melanie lived, and they married in March 1990.
David Bloom was born in 1963 and later studied at Pitzer College before joining NBC as the White House correspondent in 1997. During his tenure at NBC, he covered several high-profile events, including the 9/11 terrorist attack, presidential races, etc.
In 2000, he began working as an anchor on Weekend Today before heading overseas to bring live coverage of the Iraq War. In 2003, he suddenly collapsed while he was traveling with the troops and was rushed to the nearest hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
"David Bloom was a smart, energetic professional whose enthusiasm for the job was evident in every question he asked and every story he covered," said former president, Bill Clinton in a statement.
Bloom was just 39 years old at the time of his death. It was later revealed that he had died from a pulmonary embolism.
Nicole Brydon Bloom was just nine years old when her father passed away. She posted a touching tribute to him on her Instagram.
She wrote:
"20 years ago today my dad died while covering the war in Iraq. Forever proud of him, endeared by his sense of humor and in awe of his intelligence and commitment to the truth. We miss you every day Dad 🤍 Thank you for being such an incredible role model and father. Very grateful for the time we had. Love you to the moon and back."
The Bloom family has spoken at length about the condition in an effort to raise awareness and to warn others.
Melanie Bloom also shared a tribute on her Instagram as a way to honor David while spreading awareness about the condition. She says:
"Today marks the 10th Anniversary of World Thrombosis Day. It’s so important to know the signs and symptoms. Swipe for some additional info. Get moving and stay healthy ❤️ #WTDay23
In October 2023, Melanie sat down for an interview with The Today Show to discuss David Bloom's untimely death.
"I had been living in fear about the dangers of David’s assignment embedded with the U.S. Army’s 3rd Infantry Division in Iraq. When they called and told me he died, I was stunned. Even though he had taken so many precautions to protect himself, including wearing chemical suits, gas masks, steel reinforced boots and a flak jacket, nothing was foolproof against the war raging around him."
She further stated,
"Yet, none of that gear could have protected him from what I refer to as the bomb that lay within his own body — a blood clot he wasn't aware of and couldn't shield himself from"
As to how this situation could have happened, Melanie said,
"In David's case, it was likely caused by being sedentary for long periods of time while traveling for days on end, severe dehydration and sleeping inside military tanks with his knees pulled tightly to his chest for hours."
Melanie reflected on the difficult period in her life when she had to break the news of their father's passing to her young children.
"Our twin daughters, Christine and Nicole, were just 9, and their younger sister, Ava, was only 3 years old when David died. This made his death heartbreaking on a whole different level. Having to tell them they would never see their father again was the hardest thing I have ever done."
All the Bloom siblings later discovered that they have a rare genetic condition similar to their father's.
"Following his death, we learned that David had factor V Leiden, a hereditary gene mutation can increase your chance of developing abnormal blood clots. After that, the girls all underwent testing, and they all carry the disorder, as well. While it felt distressing to learn this news, it also felt like a gift because knowledge is power, and we urge everyone to learn more about their family history."
Melanie Bloom married commercial realtor Daniel McNulty in 2008. She is the stepmother to McNulty's two children from his previous relationship. She often posts on Instagram, appreciating all her children, including Nicole.
"So proud of my girl !! Featured in @Vanjtyfair for her upcoming role in The Gilded Age. Air in October on HBO."
Nicole Brydon Bloom and Justin Theroux dated for two years before tying the knot on Sunday. Representatives for both the actors are yet to confirm the news of their nuptials.
