Mark Anthony Saldivar, a 23-year-old photographer from San Antonio, Texas, was killed on April 23, 2017. His name has re-emerged in the news after the rapper Tay-K, whose real name is Taymor McIntyre, was recently found guilty of Saldivar’s murder. This is the rapper's second murder conviction in Texas.
Saldivar, born on September 21, 1993, in San Antonio, was remembered by friends and family as a creative spirit and a kind person. His obituary states that he was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and dearly loved by everyone.
He is survived by his parents, Lucy Saldivar and Paul Huron; his siblings; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Apart from the fact that he was a photographer and his death is now connected to Tay-K, not much is known about Saldivar's career or personal interest.
According to police reports, Mark Anthony Saldivar had contacted McIntyre for a photo shoot to promote his music. Police say McIntyre drove Saldivar in a black sedan, but what was meant to be a professional working relationship went sideways quickly. McIntyre had tried to rob Saldivar of his camera equipment before fatally shooting him, prosecutors stated.
The incident occurred in a Chick-fil-A parking lot in San Antonio’s North Side neighborhood, where Mark Anthony Saldivar lay bleeding in the chest and shoulder after being shot.
Witnesses at the scene said they witnessed a heated argument inside the vehicle before the gunfire and said the suspects escaped, leaving Saldivar’s body behind.
More about Mark Anthony Saldivar case and rapper Tay-K's past conviction
Saldivar’s killing came as McIntyre had already been convicted of murder in the past. He had been on the run after disabling his ankle monitor while being held under house arrest for his part in a 2016 home invasion in Mansfield, Texas, that resulted in 21-year-old Ethan Walker being shot dead.
During that time, McIntyre made and released the controversial song “The Race,” which went viral and helped keep the focus on his case. Ironically, it was this exact span of incidents that prosecutors claimed included Saldivar’s killing.
Almost seven years later, justice has been served in Mark Anthony Saldivar's case. On April 14, 2025, a jury convicted McIntyre of murder but acquitted him of the more serious capital murder charge, which would have led to a sentence of life in prison without parole.
Taymor McIntyre Now faces a consecutive 5 to 99 years in prison, on top of the 55-year prison term he’s already serving for the Ethan Walker case.
