In an interview with People Magazine on September 18, 2024, actor Lucas Bravo revealed why he escaped to the mountains after being initially rejected for his role in Emily in Paris. He auditioned for the role of Emily Cooper's love interest in the series. After not landing the part, Bravo shared that he chose to retreat to the mountains on the French island of Corsica.

The actor went through five auditions over several months but ultimately lost out on the role of Gabriel. He acknowledged that Paramount chose not to take a risk on him due to his lack of experience, which compelled him to take a short retreat to the Mediterranean island. Lucas Bravo further added:

“I wanted to be in a place where there's no service, and I could just talk to birds, so to speak.”

He recounted an experience where a hiker approached him and borrowed his phone, mentioning that cell service was only available after a 40-minute walk to the top of a large rock. He lent the phone to the hiker, but the man left and never came back.

While talking about his hiking experience in the interview, he shared that the hiker mentioned his phone was constantly vibrating when he reached a service area, suggesting he check his messages.

Initially, Bravo resisted, wanting to disconnect from the whole rejection situation. However, when he eventually looked at his phone, he discovered 40 messages and 30 missed calls, including one from the casting director.

Series creator Darren Star rooted for Lucas Bravo for Gabriel’s role

Bravo quickly returned to Paris from his hike but was unsure of the situation since the actor cast as Gabriel had already signed the contract, participated in a table read, and was preparing to start filming. It turned out he would be auditioning for other love interest roles.

Despite this, he still had to read Gabriel's lines during the auditions, which he found difficult as it was a fresh disappointment. Nevertheless, he went ahead with the chemistry read in a room with two Paramount producers, two writers, creator Darren Star, the director, and Lily Collins.

When the team asked about his whereabouts, Lucas Bravo said:

“I was like, ‘I was in the mountain with this shepherd making goat cheese,’ and I was so uncomfortable I talked about goat cheese for 10 minutes.”

He received a call the next day, asking if he was sitting down before being informed he would start shooting in two days. He later shared that creator Darren Star had advocated for him, believing he was the right fit for the role from the start, and had even opposed the studio's initial decision.

Regarding where the show now stands, it is revealed that after four seasons of uncertainty, Emily ultimately chooses to pursue a romantic relationship with Gabriel, her charming neighbor and one of her earliest friends in Paris. This decision comes despite the complications of Gabriel’s ex, Camille, who is expecting his first child (or maybe not).

Lucas Bravo told Variety on August 16, 2024, that he was eager to explore where this relationship could lead, although unsure if they would reunite again. Season 4 of Emily in Paris is now streaming on Netflix.
