Parenting influencers have carved out a viable niche in the online creator community. They resonate well with views and responses from existing or expecting parents who resonate with their challenges or use them as ways to learn and enhance their approach to caring for their children. It's largely a wholesome space where people experiencing similar trials and tribulations can educate themselves and genuinely feel heard and understood.

Lindsay Dewey has been part of the influencer mom movement for some time and recently faced an unimaginable loss on a very public scale. In February, her 22-month-old son Reed tragically passed away after an accident involving an unsecured mirror that ultimately fell on him, ending his life.

What happened to Reed Dewey?

According to a summary of the fatal incident on Lindsay Dewey's Instagram Stories, Reed was playing with a suction cup bowl by sticking it onto an unsecured mirror and pulling it back and forth as if it were a game. The motion in question ended up bringing the mirror down squarely on top of the young toddler.

Lindsay was just 10 feet away from her son when it happened, according to her account of events via Instagram, as she was cooking dinner nearby. Dewey managed to lift the weight off of Reed's body expeditiously, although she could not ultimately manage to save her child.

"When it initially happened. I was so confused as to HOW it happened ... There is no way our kids are strong enough to move it, let alone pull it down on themselves. And we knew that so the urgency to anchor it wasn't there. It seemed impossible for it to just randomly fall down for no reason considering its placement and weight. But when I picked it up and leaned it back on the wall, I noticed his bowl was stuck to it ... I figured out EXACTLY how it happened."

She continued,

"There were so many details that led up to this being a perfect storm. All in all, just a tragic unexpected accident. That we can never take back,"

Reed was rushed to the hospital after the incident and fell into a coma shortly thereafter due to the trauma from his injuries. Once Reed reached the point of no return, Dewey revealed that his organs were donated to five recipients who were in desperate need of a miracle- and they received one thanks to the Dewey family. Lindsey commented on this in a heartfelt caption on Instagram,

"I’ve been telling myself 'If he doesn’t get his miracle, he will become one' and that’s the only thing that’s getting me through. Even though his wasn’t saved, he is saving lives. The worst day of our lives became the best day of someone else’s and for that I will forever be grateful for our little hero baby. You’re someone’s miracle, Reed Michael. 5 little kids miracle to be exact. I couldn’t stop thinking about the families who got the best call of their life, their answered prayer. Even though this is not fair on every single level, we’re so proud of you baby."

Dewey has been open with her followers about the situation and has shared her feelings regarding the tragedy, hoping to connect with any parents who may be facing similar circumstances.
