Linda Nolan has succumbed to cancer at the age of 65. The Irish singer was best known for her role in The Nolans. She died on Wednesday morning and was reportedly surrounded by her family at the time.
Linda Nolan lost her husband, Brian Hudson, to the same illness back in 2007. They had been married for 26 years by then, having met in 1977. At the time, he worked for the Nolan Sisters as their manager. The two got hitched in 1981. However, Brian would later succumb to liver failure and skin cancer at the age of 60.
The life and legacy Linda Nolan leaves behind as singer once revealed she was suicidal after her husband's passing
Linda Nolan's manager, Dermot McNamara, confirmed the news. It was revealed that just this weekend, the singer was admitted to Blackpool Victoria Hospital for double pneumonia. By Tuesday morning, her condition became dire as she fell into a coma and was placed in hospice.
"At around 10.20am on Wednesday, she passed peacefully, with her loving siblings by her bedside, ensuring she was embraced with love and comfort during her final moments," McNamara said.
Linda Nolan was diagnosed with cancer just one year before her husband passed away. By April 2021, her cancer had spread to her liver. Speaking with The Mirror at the time, she revealed that she had secondary breast cancer. By 2017, she revealed, it had moved to her hip, and by May 2018, it was in her liver. By 2023, reportedly, the cancer had spread to her brain.
Reflecting on the passing of her husband, she told the outlet:
"I always think if he was here, he’d sort it. When I had cancer in 2006, I’d wake up in the night feeling rubbish and he’d rub my back, giving me what I needed. I miss him every day. I had depression when I lost him and I still suffer now, but it’s under control. I don’t want to go back down that slippery slope again."
She went on, adding that she was at an all-time low in her life when her husband passed:
"I was suicidal. I was assisted by a mental health crisis team. A psychiatrist came to see me, with these two big burly men who were nurses. Later, I realised if it hadn’t gone well, they’d have carted me off. My local mental health team were amazing. They told me I had nothing to lose and to give them a chance because they felt they could help me."
She also revealed that she had been diagnosed with acute depression, which had later developed into a "normal depression that they could treat with medication." She revealed that during that period of her life, she had written "goodbye letters" to her family, hoping they would understand.
In the wake of her passing, the family issued a statement on her official account on X. Read it below:
