Kyren Lacy's father, Kenny Lacy, and mother, Kandance Washington, are now speaking out after the former Louisiana State University wide receiver passed away on Saturday from an apparent suicide.
Kenny Lacy wrote on Facebook, saying:
"Young parents, start talking to your kids at a very early age and make sure they are confident and comfortable confiding in you.
His death was also confirmed by the family attorney, who released a statement, saying:
"It is with profound sorrow that we confirm the tragic passing of Kyren Lacy. First and foremost, we ask that the public and the media give his family the space and time they need to grieve this unimaginable loss in peace"
Kyren Lacy's death comes amidst previous criminal charges stemming from a hit-and-run case he was involved in last December. The case was supposed to go to trial today, on 14 April.

Kenny Lacy further opened up about how parents need to monitor their child's mental health, even if their child resists their attempts to show concern.
"Don't be cool with "I'm Alright,or I'm good" when you know deep down something isn't right. Mental Health is real, and for the most part, it's invisible, don't ignore the signs, even if they may seem small."
Kenny Lacy further added;
"Our lives have changed forever and this will never be ok, but God needed my baby more than he was needed here. This has to be the biggest pill our families have had to swallow but I know the love and compassion in our families will get us through. This will never get easier, but we'll learn to live with it. Check on your kids mental [health]!!!!!!!!!!!"
Kyren Lacy was born on 27 December 2000, to his father, Kenny Lacy, who is the head trainer at The BST Academy, whereas his mother, Kandance Washington, is a singer and performer, according to EssentiallySports.
In August 2024, just four months before the incident that would forever change Kyren's life, his father, Kenny Lacy, appeared on the official WAFB-TV, where he proudly praised his son and discussed his hopes for his son's future career. He said:
"His mind’s been focused. He’s just been grinding. I’ve been waiting for this moment…No doubt about it. He is working hard for it. The experience he has had over the years. The relationship he has got with the guys at that level. It's been a long time. I am just excited to see my son do whatever he loves to do."
Kyren Lacy was a star player who was predicted to be a late NFL draft pick for 2025 and had a record of nine touchdowns. Last year, on 17 December, Lacy was involved in driving his car at an allegedly high speed, which ended up causing a collision with another car driven by a 78-year-old man, Herman Hall, resulting in his death.
Furthermore, the star player fled the scene without offering any help or calling 911. The former Ragin Cajuns player was later arrested and charged with felony hit and run, negligent homicide, and reckless driving, but was released on bail of $1,51,000, as reported by ESPN.
The family lawyer, Mathew Ory, further added in his statement that he believed that the trial would have worked in Kyren Lacy's way and proved his innocence.
"[We are] very confident the evidence, after being fully collected and reviewed, would lead to a declination of charges. We will be demanding a full and transparent review of how this investigation was conducted and why."
The incident on Saturday night that occurred in Houston happened after Kyren got into an argument with a family member, took his gun, and fled. The police were immediately called, but their attempts to stop Kyren Lacy's car were to no avail, resulting in a car chase. Later, the car crashed, and it was soon discovered that Kyren Lacy had committed suicide in what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the dead, according to TMZ.
Kyren Lacy is survived by his parents, Kenny Lacy and Kandace Washington, and his young brothers, Jayden Allen and Liam Lamar Ward.
