Kyle Shaw, 37, has been charged with stalking the Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas over six years between 2017-2023. This happened at an address in Birkenhead, which involves online messages, photos of her home, and other invasive actions that have caused the 64-year-old "serious alarm distress."

Last week, on January 3, 2025, Shaw appeared in front of a judge at South Sefton Magistrates’ Court in Bootle, Merseyside, where he was also charged separately for the possession of marijuana. Shaw's actions have caused the 64-year-old Strictly Come Dancing judge significant distress. It is classified as harmful as it has caused a change in lifestyle and increased vigilance for Shirley Ballas.

Shaw, who provided his address as YMCA Birkenhead, did not state at the court hearing whether he was guilty or not. His lawyer showed concern regarding his mental health condition and stated that he might not be well enough to stand for trial.

Shaw's lawyer had stated:

"There are significant issues that need explanation at this particular time. I’m not comfortable taking instructions. It is a fitness to plead issue. He is under the care of the Wirral mental health."

For his actions, Shaw's bail has strict conditions, and is prohibited from being anywhere near or attempting to contact Shirley Ballas. He is also prohibited from entering London.

Shirley Ballas opens up about the stalking ordeal:

It has been tough for the 64-year-old Strictly Come Dancing judge. She was on Mirror's Invite Only podcast, where she revealed that,

"There was one particular person who was kind of stalking me. That is under investigation at the moment, as we speak."

She further revealed letting everyone in on the case, saying:

"I know his computer and phone, everything has been confiscated. He was taking pictures of my house, he had my house, he had my car. So, yes, there have been times when I have been fearful."

She went on saying:

"I meet people and they really, the majority of people are fantastic, but then once or twice you'll, they lunge.... this one particular person will lunge at me, and he really feels he knows me. He feels he knows me. But he only knows me from the TV. Or from following me on social media. And that's quite alarming."

She also added how difficult it is for her and how it took a toll on her personal life.

"So, you know, I always have George, the guy who's driven me for the last five years, get out of the car first, always scanning."

She's been at a heightened vigilance because of this. Claiming it wasn't the healthiest thing, she also expressed that she wanted to be free of having to be in such an alarmed state all the time.

"I wouldn't say it's the healthiest thing. You know, I like to be kind of like a free bird, but we're coming into times now where you have to be more vigilant of yourself."

Shirley explained that she has been hyper-vigilant since Holly Willoughby's incident was made public, where Gavin Plumb had planned to kidnap, rape, and murder the former anchor of This Morning.

This isn't Shirley's first encounter with a stalker. A few months back, she had called the police about a stalker who lunged at her and took photos of her house and car. It is still unknown if Kyle Shaw is connected to the case or not.

Despite reports that his actions left Shirley "seriously alarmed and distressed" and unable to carry out her regular daily routines, she nevertheless continues to serve as the head judge for the show Strictly Come Dancing, a role she has served since 2017.
