Jessie Cave, best known for her portrayal of Lavender Brown in the Harry Potter movie franchise, is now opening up about her struggles in her new podcast Before We Break Up Again with her partner, Alfie Brown.
The couple has been in an on-and-off relationship since they first met back in 2012, and they share four children. Alfie Brown is the son of British composer and producer Steve Brown and impressionist Jan Ravens. He began his career in 2006 and is a regular performer at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. In an interview with Entertainment Now, Brown reflected on his journey into comedy.
"I’ve always loved stand-up. I have wanted to be the funny one since my first years at primary school. My dad bought me stand-up DVDs every Christmas and birthday. As a teenager, I watched stand-up after school and later work. I was 18 when I first did it, I was appalling even for someone doing their first gig – I was bad. But I took risks I suppose, and that’s not nothing.”
The comedian received widespread backlash in 2023 after a 2015 video of him saying the n-word resurfaced. He later issued an apology on X.
"It was recorded in 2015 and years ago I realised my mistake and made every attempt to remove it, not because I was scared of it being found, but because it was wrong. And hurtful. I was ignorant."
He continued:
"It was a young comedian's arrogant attempt to be transgressive as the routine's intention was to be anti-racist. But it was stupid, I regret it, and have regretted it for a long time. It became clear that me using the language wasn't ever justified, even if trying to undermine it. I've never suffered racism and now years later this material is causing pain to people who have. I apologise deeply for it."
Jessie Cave opens up about her struggles on her podcast
Jessie Cave, who first made her first appearance in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, recently revealed in a conversation with Alfie Brown that she will be going to the popular adult content site. The actress explained that her content will cover aspects of sensuality and specifically focus on her hair.
“It's very much geared toward people who have an interest or fetish with hair. I do a lot of videos with my hair on Instagram and I have now for a while. I just noticed that I always get comments. They’re never sexually depraved or lascivious. It's never dirty comments, but I do get lots of interest in the hair thing and I just thought, 'F--k it, I'm going to do something that is very niche.'"
Jessie Cave also announced via her Substack that she hopes that this venture will help her address her financial difficulties and cover essential repairs to her home.
"My aim? To get the house safe, cover the arsenic/lead wallpaper, build a new roof etc. My aim? To get out of debt. My aim? To empower myself? To prove to those in the past who have misjudged me that I’m not so sweet? To put time into something I never invested in before: self-love.”
Jessie Cave and Alfie Brown's relationship has been notably unconventional due to its on-and-off nature. In an interview with Sunday Times Style, she addressed the misconceptions around their dynamic. She said:
"My fear is that people think that we just ‘made the best of it’ because I got pregnant, or that I ‘trapped him’. I don’t know what would have happened if I hadn’t got pregnant that night, but I like to think we would have gone to M&M’s World on a second date. In a way, we both trapped each other, and we are extremely lucky."
Beyond her role in Harry Potter, Cave has also played minor roles in several TV shows and films like Great Expectations, Tale of Tales, Black Mirror, and others.
