R Kelly's lawyer, Jennifer Bonjean, is calling out SNL for the joke they cracked at the rapper's expense.
During SNL's 50th anniversary special, an "In Memoriam" montage was played. Featuring some of the "problematic guests" on the show who have since been convicted of, or are awaiting trial for, s*xual crimes. Stars include Diddy, Jared Fogle, Robert Blake, OJ Simpson, and R Kelly. Bonjean has since called out the show, referring to them as arrogant.
Jennifer Bonjean is the owner and founder of Bonjean Law Group, PLLC. The criminal defense and civil rights litigation lawyer specializes in appellate, post-conviction, and habeas corpus litigation. According to her official website,
"Bonjean works tirelessly to reverse the convictions of innocent people wrongly incarcerated. She is committed to exposing the rampant police and prosecutorial misconduct that often leads to wrongful convictions. In 2014 the Chicago Innocence Project awarded Bonjean the Humanitarian of the year Award for her work on Stanley Wrice’s appeal."

In a statement to TMZ, Bonjean called out SNL for attacking R Kelly:
“[It’s] rather arrogant that SNL sees it as their job to decide, belatedly, who should and should not be canceled.”
Bonjean also called out the other "problematic" celebrities from the last few years who didn't make it to the montage.
The clip featuring Kelly shows him alongside Lady Gaga during a 2013 episode, where the latter can be seen thanking him for his performance. The video even featured a short clip of Diddy referencing the disgraced rapper three years prior:
"Don't judge a book by it's cover," the mogul stated. "My man is like R Kelly."
Lady Gaga was also featured on the 50th anniversary special, as the pop star decried the rapper back in 2019 via a lengthy post on Instagram:
"I will not be working with him again," Lady Gaga penned at the time. "I’m sorry, both for my poor judgement when I was young, and for not speaking out sooner. I love you."
The U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the original ruling and conviction that dates back to a 2021 trial that found him guilty on nine counts of sex trafficking and racketeering.
"We have considered all the arguments presented by Kelly on appeal and concluded they are without merit," the decision reads, as reported by USA Today.
In a statement to USA Today, Jennifer Bonjean said that she was "disappointed" to learn of the ruling but alluded to plans of a possible appeal to the Supreme Court instead.
