Gus Kenworthy, the British freestyle skier, is opening up on the challenges he faces during his transition from sports to acting. The Olympian appeared on the "Who's the A**hole podcast," hosted by Katya, where he discussed the many difficulties of navigating the new career path.
Kenworthy, who is dating Andrew Rigby, made history in 2015 as the first openly gay professional athlete to appear on the cover of the ESPN magazine.
During the podcast, the Sochi Winter Olympics 2014 silver medalist spoke candidly on the demanding nature of acting. Kenworthy, who has several acting credits to his name, including "American Horror Story: 1984," said in a conversation with Katya:
"It’s really hard, and then when you’re like in the moment [on set] it’s definitely, like, particularly hard. But I think the thing I like about it is that, like, you can kind of do it forever. And like, with skiing, with sports, there’s like such an expiration on it. With acting, you can just kind of keep getting better and better.”
He further explains his decision to step away from competitive skiing. He said:
“I feel like I was pretty much at kind of like the ceiling for [skiing] and I was 32 at this last Olympics. I feel like the peak age is between like 18 and 25."
Katya, who is known for his snarky remarks, added that apart from the above-mentioned career paths, one could always do p*rn, to which Gus indicated that while it was a firm no before, at this moment, the option was not completely out of the question.
"Honestly, that was like a ‘No no no,’ [for me], and now I’m like, ‘Maybe,’ " he added.
The "80 For Brady" actor said that acting is something he wants to focus on but also wishes that he could do sports commentary at major events like the Olympics.
“I would do that. I don't want to be pigeonholed into doing that all the time at all of the different events, but I would definitely do it at the Olympics. If I were able to cherry-pick which events I got to do,” he said.
