Eugenio Casnighi, a model and talent agent who lives in New York City, claims his job at 2024's Met Gala was cancelled after posing close to Kylie Jenner on the red carpet. The story has now gone viral again with Casnighi recounting the incident, according to The Sun.
Casnighi, 27, was a greeter for the event in 2022 and 2023, a job that requires helping high-profile guests make it through the red carpet. Casnighi first turned heads in 2023 after several photos and videos emerged of him standing in close proximity to Kylie Jenner, leading to social media attention and speculations.
His appearance next to the reality star and beauty mogul caused a social media stir. But according to Eugenio Casnighi, the incident wasn’t sitting well with the Met Gala's agency and organizers.
According to The Sun, Casnighi recently remembered one particular exchange with Jenner on the red carpet. He said she gave him a tip about where to stand during the walk. They eventually determined to keep a five-step distance, a precaution that eventually backfired, he said, as media attention focused on him as much as her.
"She told me, ‘Don’t get too far from me, or it’ll look weird, like you’re chasing me. But don’t stay too close, or it’ll look like we’re dating. Looking back on it now, that was honestly so true. She wanted me to stay 5 steps away from her, so that’s how we did it," he said.
When questioned if he had been contacted by Kylie's team after the incident, Casnighi said,
"No, I never heard anything from Kylie’s team because a.) it’s not Kylie’s responsibility or problem and b.) I don’t even know if she remembers the whole story."
More about Eugenio Casnighi and his response to being fired
Eugenio Casnighi revealed more about the fallout in a TikTok video last year, where he said he was told three days before the 2024 Met Gala that he had been taken off the staff itinerary. The reason, he said, was that he “made it about himself” and became too big of a focal point at the 2023 event.
"But when people took pictures of the actual celebrity... and I was next to her, of course I ended up in the picture. And they blamed me," he said in the video.
According to an article by Just Jared, Eugenio Casnighi also shared follow-up videos where he claimed that a new rule was put in place last year, which meant that models were not allowed to post any sort of content to their own social accounts after the Met Gala ended.
He then listed several celebrities he had positive experiences with, which included Billie Eilish, Blake Lively, Kylie Jenner, Kim Kardashian, and Gigi Hadid.
Eugenio Casnighi, who was born in Italy, now lives in New York City and is represented by Q Models. His modeling profile lists him as 6 feet 1 inch tall, with a 30-inch waist, and a shoe size 10.5. He has brown hair and brown eyes. As of the writing of this article, he has over 270,000 followers on his Instagram.
