Nigerian content creator Kuye Adegoke, more popularly known as Egungun of Lagos, has sparked a flurry of criticism over one of his private videos getting leaked and subsequently going viral on Sunday, December 1.
In the video, Egungun can be seen on a video call with an unknown, light-skinned woman. He was brushing his teeth, clad in nothing but his undergarments, before he flashed the camera for a quick minute. His wife, Pashota, has since defended their eight-year marriage and rubbished the leak as nothing but a blackmail attempt.
Who is Egungun of Lagos? Here's what we know about him
Egungun of Lagos is one of the more popular content creators based in Nigeria. Born in March, 1995, in Lagos State, Nigeria, his full name is Kuye Oghenevwede Adegoke. He first shot to fame when a video of him dancing in a masquerade outfit went viral, and he is well known for his charisma in interviewing people.
In the early days of his career, he interviewed fishermen and other workers in Lagos. One of his most popular videos includes an instance where he wanted to throw the fish he was holding back into the sea after taking photos with it, but instead, he flung his phone over. The video quickly went viral, but his old account has since been taken down.
Egungun of Lagos is also one of the only creators to have interviewed several top celebrities in the African country, and is renowned for his philanthropic nature. He has caught the eye of A-listers like Snoop Dogg, and local celebrities like Burna Boy, Pino Vibes, and Peller.
Egungun of Lagos' wife, Pashotah, says the scandal is not enough to tear down their marriage
As for Egungun's latest scandal, Pashotah took to Instagram to label it a blackmail attempt on her husband on Sunday, penning the following:
"Hi guys, someone is blackmailing me with my husband’s videos. My name is Pashotah and y’all know my husband is, obviously I know so many people have wanted to bring both of us down including guys and girls. I always choose to ignore but I’m not ignoring today cuz the blackmailer didn’t go to Egungun of Lagos directly to blackmail him but he came to me instead cos (sic) he has a motive of putting me to shame like he said his messages above but one thing he (blackmailer) doesn’t know is that this relationship between myself and my husband is not just built today, this relationship has been coming for over 6-8 years when we both had nothing. This relationship is built on trust, understanding, loyalty, commitment and so many more. So there is nothing that can bring us down, not even now.”
Pashotah also claimed that one of her husband's Snapchat friends recorded the video that was meant to be private, but was unwittingly posted on his story instead. She also uploaded screenshots of the alleged blackmailer asking her for money in exchange for the video.
Egungun himself has yet to weigh in, but he took to Instagram shortly after, seemingly unfazed by the scandal involving him. He uploaded a video of himself dancing with an unknown woman in his living room to the song "Gimme Love" by Zlatan and Olamide.
His caption read:
“That’s massive baby but still give me your love baby”
Following the leak, Egungun of Lagos was hit with a wave of scrutiny and criticism, with many questioning his true nature and his marriage. However, he is the latest in a growing list of Nigerian celebrities embroiled in controversies. Just this November, Eloka Nwamu, also known as Eloswag, was involved in a similar scandal.
