Diddy's former friend, Deon "D1" Best, is contending that the mogul ran a criminal enterprise that hid money and illegal business deals under his mother's name. In speaking on the Daily Mail's podcast, The Trial of Diddy, D1 revealed his imminent plans to sue Janice Combs for clinching the artists' publishing rights.
D1, also Diddy's former associate, first became friends with him and Notorious B.I.G. in the late 1990s. He often stepped in as their bodyguard on their trips to LA, and according to The Music Essentials, the two became closer when Diddy and Suge's friendship came crashing down in the mid-1990s.
D1 claims Diddy's mother's actions inflicted "emotional hardship" on him
According to D1, he helped broker several deals in the late 1990s under his company, Finish Line Entertainment, but it was Janice who retained the publishing rights and future earnings. He also asserted that he was the mastermind behind signing Notorious B.I.G. to Diddy.
He told the outlet:
"All of my publishing rights went to Janice Combs. I'm here to talk about a different section of his allegations... and what I feel to believe involves his mother, Janice Combs. The [Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act] is about holding people accountable for systematic actions."
The 56-year-old former model turned businesswoman continued:
"You know, these actions have caused financial hardship, emotional hardship, but not only myself, but other artists in the business through what I feel was fraudulent and coercive activity. And I think that Janice Combs falls under those guidelines.''
As for Sean Combs' mother, Janice Combs, she broke her silence early this October, urging the public to believe that her son, who was indicted on three charges — sex trafficking by force; racketeering conspiracy, fraud or coercion; and transportation to engage in prostitution — is not “a monster.”
She penned:
"To bear witness what seems to be like a public lynching of my son before he has had the opportunity to prove his innocence is a pain too unbearable to put into words. Sometimes, the truth and a lie become so closely intertwined that it becomes terrifying to admit one part of the story, especially when that truth is outside the norm or is too complicated to be believed.”
Her statement went on, noting that she would "never forget" watching "the world make jokes and laugh at [her] son's life crumbling before our eyes." She revealed that it was "truly agonizing" for her to,
"watch the world turn against my son so quickly and easily over lies and misconceptions, without ever hearing his side or affording him the opportunity to present his side.”
Diddy, who has been denied being released on bond by several judges, has filed a motion to be released from jail yet again, USA Today has reported. Combs, who is currently detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, is looking at life behind bars if convicted.
