Joe Rogan hosted Dave Smith and Douglas Murray on a recent episode of his podcast.
Both guests spoke their minds on different political subjects and exchanged multiple heated arguments during the conversation. At one point, Murray, a political commentator and journalist, even criticized Smith for not being fully well-informed or an expert about the topic they were discussing.
Dave Smith is a regular guest on The Joe Rogan Experience. The 41-year-old is a stand-up comedian and a libertarian political commentator known for supporting the Libertarian Party Mises Caucus. He also hosts a podcast titled Part of the Problem, where he often discusses politics and invites various political experts.
On the personal front, the New York City native has been married to Lauren Smith for almost seven years and has two children. He has Jewish ancestry, with his grandfather being a refugee from Germany.
During a 2020 chat with the Mises Institute, Dave Smith talked about his grandfather and stepfather being veterans,
“My grandfather was a refugee from Germany, a Jew who was basically born in the worst place at the wrong time. He enlisted in the US Army and fought in World War II. My stepfather fought in Vietnam. So I have some veterans in my family who know about the evils of war…”
Dave Smith grew up in New York City, where he lived with his mother and sister
In the interview with the Mises Institute, the stand-up comic talked about growing up in “old Brooklyn” in a lower-middle-class household. He revealed that he lived with his mother, a single mom, and an older sister. Dave Smith also has a 13-year-younger half-brother. The comedian-political commentator talked about his home environment,
“I have a brother and a sister, but my brother is much younger. He’s thirteen years younger, from my mother’s second marriage. I grew up with a single mother and my older sister. We were lower middle class, and then moved into middle class.”
He added,
“We moved a lot. I lived in probably nine or ten different apartments throughout my life. I was born in 1983 and grew up in what is now old Brooklyn and what I guess is now old America.”
During the conversation, Dave Smith also reflected upon how his marriage and fatherhood had an impact on his life,
“I was somebody who lived a very degenerate lifestyle for a long time. I was a comedian on the road, a single guy. I did that for a while. Then I met a really great woman and settled down and got married and had a kid. And I realized life is so much better.”
Dave has publicly spoken or posted about his wife and children on multiple occasions. In 2021, while wishing his spouse, the comedian wrote on X (formerly Twitter),
“The best thing I ever did in my life was marry her and it’s not even close. She gave me two beautiful babies and a beautiful life. No matter what I do I will never be able to repay her, but I will spend the rest of my life trying.”
Dave Smith and Douglas Murray were recently involved in a heated exchange on Joe Rogan’s podcast

Murray, a British journalist and political commentator, didn’t hold back while sharing his opinions or criticism on the recent episode of JRE. In the middle of his heated exchange with Dave Smith, Douglas asked whether the comedian had ever visited the place he referred to in his argument.
The 41-year-old stand-up comic said he had never traveled there but asserted that he still had the right to discuss it. Smith gave the example of n*zi Germany, proclaiming how people who never visited there can still be experts on its subject. Douglas Murray suggested that one cannot “time travel,” but one can travel. He also added,
“If you’re gonna spend a year and a half talking about a place, you should at least do the courtesy of visiting it.”
Dave Smith called Murray’s stance a non-argument, while Joe Rogan asked whether it is crucial to “touch the ground” to have a conversation. The British journalist reiterated his opinion firmly and proclaimed how it was his journalistic rule to avoid talking about a country without visiting it.
During the podcast, Douglas Murray disagreed with Joe Rogan and Dave Smith on separate issues. At the beginning of their conversation, the commentator-journalist even criticized the host for platforming “conspiracy theorists.”
