American singer-songwriter, Coco Jones dazzled on the red carpet at the 97th Oscars last week. The Here We Go singer turned heads in a stunning thigh-high sequined black coach gown by Coach, which she accessorized with a diamond pendant and matching sequined black clutch. The dress was a modern take on the classic little black dress.
Before making waves in the music industry, Jones starred in the Disney movie, Let It Shine, back in 2012. Jones is the daughter of NFL legend Mike Jones, and mother, Javonda Jones, both of whom she credits with shaping her journey to success.
Coco Jones is set to release her debut album, Why Not More, later this year, revealed that her Oscar look was inspired by the themes from her album.
"The Oscars dress that I'm doing with Coach is very similar to my album, where there are these vintage elements combined with these new elements. Also it's kind of crazy—I didn't even tell them this—but I've been wearing a lot of sheer in my rollout, and the dress has these elements of sheer as well. So I kind of look for pieces that tell the same story that I'm trying to tell in whatever chapter I'm in in life." Jones said in an interview with Harpers Bazar.
In addition to her upcoming album, the singer recently teased a snippet of her rendition of Britney Spears' Toxic, and is also getting ready for her first tour later this year.
Coco Jones' family and other details revealed
Coco Jones was born to parents Mike Jones and Javonda Jones. The couple married in 1995 and have four children, Coco, Steven, Mikey Jr., and Aja. Javonda later filed for divorce in 2021, after twenty-six years of marriage.
Coco Jones shares a close relationship with her father, who played for various teams, including St. Louis Rams and Tennessee Titans. Following his retirement, he transitioned into professional coaching, and currently serves as a coach at the Lincoln University.
In 1998, at just nine years old, Coco had the opportunity to sing the National anthem at a St. Louis Rams game. The Grammy nominee recently reminisced about the moment on Instagram, with the caption:
"just a little girl with big dreams🤍"
Reflecting on her performance, Mike Jones shared his emotions during a 2012 interview with ESPN.
"She's always been my baby. When she did the national anthem at a football game once, I was sweating and more nervous than when I was in the Super Bowl. We have a very close family, and we call her our clutch performer"
In 2020, Jones gave a sweet shoutout to her father for Father's Day. She wrote:
"From the first day, and every day after, you are always on my side. Always believing in me.. and loving me! Thank you, Dad. Happy Father's Day to the greatest Father ever!"
Coco Jones's mother, Javonda Jones, is also a singer and Jones often credits her for guiding her journey in the entertainment industry. In an interview with PopSugar, she said:
"My mom, Javonda Jones, aka earth queen!, has been crucial to my journey in entertainment. She is the definition of selfless. She sacrificed her free time for her kids, to help them accomplish whatever their hearts desired. She figured it out when we didn't know what to do to get me to where I wanted to go."
On the Club Shay Shay podcast, Coco Jones also talked about how her mother protected her from the industry challenges. Coming from a long line of women business owners, Javonda instilled in her the importance of prioritizing herself and staying true to her path.
"My momma is smart as hell. … My mom comes from a family of women business owners. We have a funeral home that’s been in our family for generations."
She continues:
She knows a lot about being a good businesswoman. She changed my name from Courtney to Coco so that they could be separate legally. My mom taught me a lot about protecting yourself." she said.
Javonda Jones has also been Coco's manager since the beginning, and currently manages her company. Coco Jones shares a close bond with her parents and siblings, and has often talked about the love and support they have.
