Cate Blanchett has been married to her husband, Andrew Upton, for 27 years now. The couple tied the knot in 1997 but could not capture the ceremony. While Blanchett recently revealed why, many are also wondering about her husband and whether he also comes from the film fraternity or not.
Both Blanchett and Upton are from Australia. While the latter is not often in the spotlight, he does have a background in Hollywood. For the unversed, Andrew Upton, 59, is a screenwriter, playwright, and director.
The couple met much before they began dating when Cate Blanchett was part of a production of a play by the Russian playwright Anton Chekhov. In 1999, she told Vanity Fair how their first impression of each other was not the best. However, a kiss changed everything, and they began dating in 1997. By the end of the year, they were a married couple.
How did it happen? Blanchett appeared on The Ellen Show in 2015 and recalled how her husband proposed to her. She said,
"We were in bed, as you are after three days, and he said, ‘Cate,’ and I thought, ‘Sh*t, he’s gonna ask me to marry him, and I’m gonna have to say yes.’ And then he said, ‘No, I’m hungry, do you want to go get something to eat?"
However, the Disclaimer star was not wrong. Upton did pop the question 21 days into dating, and she said yes.

Over the 27 years of their union, the couple have worked on several projects together. They have also agreed on how they like working together. Moreover, Upton has reportedly been very supportive of Blanchett's career. On the other hand, the Carol actress is very fond of her husband, who is one of the "few grounded people I know whose head is in the stars."
They also share their four children: Dashiell, Roman, Ignatius, and Edith.
Why Cate Blanchett has only one photo from her wedding with husband Andrew Upton?
It is rare for any couple to not have pictures from their wedding ceremony. But, Cate Blanchett is one of them, and she is nothing but grateful. During her recent appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, the 55-year-old recalled what happened on her wedding day 27 years ago.
While talking to Drew Barrymore, she revealed that neither she nor her now-husband had any money for the wedding photographer. Therefore, they asked two of their photographer friends to capture the ceremony, but they did not get the job done.
"When we got married we had absolutely no money. We couldn't have a photographer and we had two friends who were photographers."
"One guy who got so drunk he forgot to load film in the camera and the other one had such a good time that he didn't take any pictures, and as a result, we have one picture of our wedding," Blanchett continued.
The single wedding photo that they have is a blurry one in which they, as newlyweds, were getting into the car. But, Cate Blanchett added that she "really remembers the night as a result."
Having almost no photos of her special day did upset Blanchett at that time, but now she is happy. She added,
"I'm kind of quite pleased that I don't have any pictures because I then constantly try and recall the evening."
