Who was Bob Carter? All about Nick and Aaron Carter’s parents as sibling Angel recalls parental neglect

Jane Eleonora Schneck and Bob Carter raised their five kids during their 25-year-long marriage. Tragically, three of their children died early, while the surviving two – Angel and Nick Carter – recently opened up about their siblings' deaths in the Paramount+ documentary The Carters: Hurts to Love You.

While talking to Page Six about the new docufilm, Angel, Aaron Carter’s twin sister, reflected upon facing neglect at an early age and asserted that it ultimately saved her,

“I really think that from a young age, because I was neglected, it ultimately saved me.”

All of Angel and Nick’s three siblings had drug-related demise, while the cause behind their father Robert “Bob” Carter’s death was reported to be a heart attack. The Carter family patriarch owned a bar named the Yankee Rebel, per People. Bob Carter married Jane, the mother of his five children, in May 1979.

Bob Carter's relationship with Jane Eleonora Schneck lasted 25 years and ended in divorce. From the marriage, Bob Carter fathered five children: Nick, Leslie, Bobbie Jean, Aaron, and Angel. Besides being a bar owner, Robert was also a reality TV star. He appeared on the only season of House of Carters.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Robert Carter’s ex-wife, Jane Schneck, was arrested in 2004 and charged with battery after allegedly breaking into his home and attacking his then-girlfriend, Ginger Elrod. Schneck reportedly dragged Elrod out of bed by her hair and struck her with a television remote. Although Elrod did not press charges, a restraining order was said to be in place at the time.

Bob Carter had three marriages and seven children

Before marrying Schneck, Bob Carter was married to Pamela Freeman Wolfe, with whom he shared a daughter named Ginger Lee, Nick and his siblings’ half-sister. She was 51 when she passed away in Mayville in 2023. There isn’t much known about her mother, Pamela, who has remained away from the spotlight.

After divorcing Jane Schneck, Robert married his third wife, Ginger Elrod, with whom he shared his seventh child, Kaden Brent Carter. Bob and Ginger remained married until he died in 2017, which TMZ first reported. The Backstreet Boys member later confirmed it in an X (formerly Twitter) post,

“I am heartbroken to share the news that our father, Robert, passed away last night…”

In another post, Nick added,

“While we learn more about the cause of death, and begin the grieving process, we ask that our privacy be respected at this difficult time.”

Aaron Carter also wrote about her father in a currently deleted post,

“My heart is Completely shattered I’m in shock and I loved my dad so much. #RIP daddy I Love You”

The cause of death wasn’t revealed initially; it was later reported as a heart attack. In a recent interview with Page Six, Angel Carter suggested that Robert’s death might have also been related to drugs. She also talked about The Carters: Hurts to Love You during the conversation.

The documentary premiered on April 15 via Paramount+. Besides the release of the docufilm, new s**ual assault allegations against Nick Carter also emerged after a woman filed a lawsuit against the singer. It is the fourth instance the Backstreet Boys member has been accused of s**ual assault.
