Alison Krauss and her band, Union Station, are back with a new album, Arcadia, after 14 years. The latest album featuring the bluegrass-country singer, who was previously married to guitarist Pat Bergeson, is scheduled to release on March 28.
According to Billboard, the album will feature 10 songs. In a statement, Krauss said the album tells stories of the past. She elaborated:
"The stories of the past are told in this music. It’s that whole idea of ‘in the good old days when times were bad.’ There’s so much bravery and valor and loyalty and dreaming, of family and themes of human existence that were told in a certain way when our grandparents were alive."
Krauss added:
"Someone asked me, ‘How do you sing these tragic tunes?' I have to. It’s a calling. I feel privileged to be a messenger of somebody else’s story. And I want to hear what happened.”
The 27-time Grammy winner added that in the 14 years since the group's last album, Paper Airplane, the members of Union Station were busy pursuing their own projects. She said in the statement:
"Everybody’s always gone and done their own thing and had a very busy career outside of this band. When we come back together, we’ve lived all these other places, and it just makes it stronger. I’ve always felt like, you know, life sounds good on people.”
The Grammy-winning bluegrass band will embark on their first tour in 20 years, starting with a performance at Louisville, Kentucky.
Allison Krauss' marriage to Pat Bergeson
Allison Krauss was married to fellow performer Pat Bergeson. Not much information is available about the couple, but according to a report in TheThings, they met in 1996 and got married in December the same year, after a short period of courtship. Their only son, Sam Bergeson, was born in July 1999. The couple divorced after five years of marriage, with Krauss receiving full custody of their son.
Sam Bergeson, who now works as a musician, had been the one introducing Allison to newer artists and songs. In a 2017 interview with The Florida Times Union, the Whiskey Lullaby singer said of her son:
"As soon as he [Sam] showed up, he was in charge of the music in the car. When we deny what young people are listening to, we’re really denying a big part of them. There’s something about it that’s speaking to them.”
Allison Krauss added how her son often gave her advice for her projects, saying:
“He goes, ‘Oh, boy. Mom, I don’t think you better touch those Brenda Lee songs.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, you think?’ He goes, ‘Whoa. Those are so good. I’m like, ‘Thank you, honey.’”
Over the years, Allison Krauss has been linked to Led Zeppelin member, Robert Plant. The two collaborated on the Grammy winning album, Raising Sand, and later reunited for the 2021 album, Raise the Roof. The Led Zeppelin frontman explained why their collaboration works in a 2021 interview with People magazine.
"We're just good. I think we are determined and gritty. We like the idea of seeing things straight down the line, no fluffy stuff. So if we don't get it right, we have to move on. And we're friends, really good friends, so we can reach a 'no' really quickly if it's not feeling right.
Union Station's latest album, Arcadia, is set to be released on March 28, 2025, under Down the Road records.
