Alexandra Fröhlich, a best-selling German novelist, has been found dead, prompting a murder inquiry.
The Guardian has reported that the author's body was found on a houseboat in Hamburg with signs of a violent attack. The 58-year-old's remains were uncovered on Tuesday morning, investigators have revealed.
Her exact cause of death was "unclear" to the officials who arrived at the scene of the crime. Seeing as how foul play cannot be ruled out, officials are now treating her death as a homicide.
Frölisch is most known for her 2020 best-selling novel Dreck am Stecken, which translates to “dirt on one’s hands.” It chronicles the life of a young man named Johannes, who uncovers his grandfather's dark past following his demise. He also penned Meine russische Schwiegermutter und andere Katastrophen, or in English, “My Russian Mother-in-Law and Other Disasters.”
As reported by E! News, her author profile page, published by Droemer Knaur, lists Frölisch as both a journalist and author. She resided in Hamburg with her three sons and doubled as an editor for various magazines. In the author statement, translated from German, it is revealed that she had a “close yet changing affection” for her “Russian ex."
