Last year marked an important milestone for Christopher Nolan, with his Oppenheimer becoming a landmark critical and commercial success. According to a report by Deadline, Christopher Nolan is now all set to commence working on his next movie project, which is expected to be released in 2026.

Reputable sources previously revealed that Matt Damon and Tom Holland have been brought on board. The latest news has confirmed that Anne Hathaway and Zendaya will also join the Universal project.

Christopher Nolan is known for his cinematic brilliance, which attracts top-tier talent. In keeping with his previous films, the upcoming movie could be expected to have a multi-star cast. The exact details regarding the plot, cast, characters, and genre are still shrouded in mystery; however, The Hollywood Reporter recently claimed that the film might not be set in the present.

Matt Damon has collaborated with Christopher Nolan on Interstellar and Oppenheimer in the past. Similarly, Anne Hathaway was part of Nolan's ensemble in The Dark Knight Rises and Interstellar. Zendaya and Tom Holland will work with Nolan for the first time on the upcoming project, which Universal Studios will release and distribute.

Actors open up about starring in the next Christopher Nolan movie

It is no wonder Nolan attracts Hollywood A-listers to star in his films. Although Nolan has been in the habit of casting several big names for his films, his Oppenheimer was the grandest movie in terms of casting to date. With the upcoming film, it can be expected that Nolan will at least match his oeuvre, if not surpass it altogether.

As per Variety, Anne Hathaway expressed her gratitude earlier this year for Christopher Nolan. She said:

"A lot of people wouldn’t give me roles because they were so concerned about how toxic my identity had become online. I had an angel in Christopher Nolan, who did not care about that and gave me one of the most beautiful roles I’ve had in one of the best films that I’ve been a part of…And my career did not lose momentum the way it could have if he hadn’t backed me."

Similarly, Tom Holland expressed joy and excitement:

"All I can say is that I’m incredibly excited, and obviously honored, but that’s all I can say because, to be honest, that’s all I know."

Holland added that receiving the call from the casting agency was a happy moment for him and reminded him of the first casting call he received ten years ago for Spider-Man.

Speaking about the upcoming project and the weight of delivering another blockbuster, Nolan himself commented:

"I think you can’t worry too much about the relationship of one film to the next. I get bored very quickly, I like to keep working. It’s exciting to think about what’s next.”

What's the latest buzz around Christopher Nolan's next movie?

The upcoming Nolan film is still unnamed, and the loglines and screenplay details are being kept tightly under wraps, as is typical of Nolan, who does not like his film to leak out before its release. The film is slated to release on July 17, 2026, in IMAX and theatrically. Unlike Oppenheimer, which was picked up by Universal Studios by auction, the upcoming project was greenlit by Universal right away at the outset.
