For the New York City premiere of A Complete Unknown, Timothee Chalamet debuted a new updo. He recreated Bob Dylan's 2003 Masked and Anonymous screening look, complete with a blue beanie and blond tresses.
At the event, which took place on December 13 at the SVA Theater, the 28-year-old actor recreated Dylan's look from the 2003 Sundance Film Festival event. His ensemble comprised a beanie, a Celine black leather coat, some matching denim pants, a grey plaid scarf, red flannel, and blond bangs that fell over his eyes.
Bob Dylan raves over Timothee Chalamet emulating him in the upcoming movie
The look is a nod to the biopic it is based on, as in it, Chalamet plays a juvenile Bob Dylan. It hits theatres on December 25 and also stars Elle Fanning, Monica Barbaro, and Edward Norton. Just this December 5, the singer himself took to X to give his two cents on the movie:
"There’s a movie about me opening soon called A Complete Unknown (what a title!). Timothee Chalamet is starring in the lead role. Timmy’s a brilliant actor so I’m sure he’s going to be completely believable as me. Or a younger me. Or some other me. The film’s taken from Elijah Wald’s Dylan Goes Electric – a book that came out in 2015. It’s a fantastic retelling of events from the early ‘60s that led up to the fiasco at Newport. After you’ve seen the movie read the book."
Chalamet himself responded with a vote of gratitude, as reported by Billboard:
"Floored. I am so grateful. Thank you, Bob.”
The actor has yet to confirm if the blond tresses are a wig, though more notably, he copied the "Mr. Tambourine Man" singer's 2003 look down to the thin mustache. However, on the December 12 episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, he admitted that his facial hair was for a movie he is currently working on, Marty Supreme.
The movie has yet to come out and has already garnered mixed reviews, The Daily Mail has reported. It sees Timothee Chalamet emulate Bob Dylan and was inspired by a 2015 book written by Wald, Dylan Goes Electric.
Per Billboard, Director James Mangold revealed that Dylan himself weighed in on the script. The movie follows the singer-songwriter as he decides to switch to electric instruments at the Newport Folk Festival back in 1965.
Timothee Chalamet will also be joined on screen by Boyd Holbrook, Dan Fogler, Norbert Leo Butz, Eriko Hatsune, Big Bill Morgenfield, Scoot McNairy, and Will Harrison. Cowritten by director James Mangold and Jay Cocks, as reported by Billboard, fans first noticed the Dune star filming for the same in New York earlier this year.
