The news of Michelle Trachtenberg's unexpected demise shocked Hollywood and her fans worldwide. On February 26, 2025, the actress passed away at her home in Manhattan at the age of 39. Her mother found her unconscious and unresponsive at her apartment.

Actress Mara Wilson, 37, met Michelle when they were child actors. In 1996, Wilson and Trachtenberg received appreciation for appearing in Mathilda and Harriet The Spy, respectively.

Interestingly, they studied at the same middle school, the Mathilda actress revealed while writing for Vulture recently. According to a People Magazine report, she completed her middle school in Brooklyn. Later, she relocated to Sherman Oaks and attended Notre Dame High School.

Recalling those childhood days, she shared about an incident in 1999 where the late actress pulled her aside and asked whether other students were mean to her.

During their first one-on-one conversation, Trachtenberg asked,

"Are the kids here mean to you?"

Hearing her friend replying with a "sometimes," she started getting misty-eyed and said,

"Because they are to me. They call me Harriet the S**t, Harriet the B**ch, Harriet the B**chy Spy … and so much worse. They never stop."

Mara Wilson expressed the sweetest words for her dear friend Michelle Trachtenberg.

Though many often had a preconceived notion about the Gossip Girl actor, Mara Wilson described her as friendly, as per an AOL report.

She expressed the sweetest words for her dear friend Michelle Trachtenberg.

"This wasn’t supposed to happen. She was too young. She’d worked too hard. I always thought I would get the chance to see her again, to tell her how much I’d always looked up to her. To tell her the times we spent together as children were some of the best of my life."

She further continued:

"In retrospect, it feels as though we were the last generations of child actors who were allowed to be kids"

Though they lost touch after completing middle school, Mara always supported and defended her friend. She revealed how one of her college acquaintances judged Michelle Trachtenberg and said

"Michelle Trachtenberg is so mean on Gossip Girl that I feel like she just has to be a bitch in real life."

Wilson supported her childhood friend and responded to her acquaintance, stating,

"She’s not! I knew her. She was a sweetheart"

While the troll was adamant about her opinion and claimed, "But she’s so good at playing a bitch," Mara rolled her eyes and proudly chimed in, "Because she’s a good actress."
