AC/DC founders Angus and Malcolm Young's childhood home was located at 4 Burleigh Street in Sydney's inner west suburb of Burwood. As per Australian news site news.com.au, the childhood home of the bandmate brothers was bulldozed in recent weeks by developers who claimed that they had no idea of the cultural significance of the property.

The semi-detached property was purchased by Burwood Square Pty Ltd in February 2023 for $5.8 million and had been listed on the National Trust List of Historic Homes in 2013 for becoming a tourist attraction for fans. However, the National Trust did not ensure the property was being recognized as heritage listed or "protected under local or state legislation" as per Burwood Council.

The property was demolished alongside 2 Burleigh Street as part of a residential development plan.

The Young family moved to Australia from Scotland in 1963. In 1962, George Young met Harry Vanda and formed the popular rock group The Easybeats. His younger brothers Malcolm and Angus Young started AC/DC in the Burleigh Home in 1973. Angus's iconic schoolboy outfit is inspired by the nearby Ashfield Boys High School.

"We are genuinely sorry for this oversight" - Developers apologize for demolishing AC/DC childhood home

Burwood Square Pty Ltd, who demolished AC/DC founder, Angus and Malcolm Young's childhood home at 4 Burleigh Street in Burwood, Sydney issued an apology. The home was where the Young brothers founded the popular rock band in 1973.

General manager Leon Kmita in an apology mentioned,

"We regret that the previous long-term owner did not share this vital part of the property's background with us. Learning about this connection after out plans were already underway has shocked us. We are genuinely sorry for this oversight."

Kmita also added,

"On behalf of the team at Burwood Square, I want to convey our heartfelt regret. We now recognize how deeply this location resonates with the AC/DC community and fans worldwide. We feel a strong responsibility to honour AC/DC's legacy and to make amends to all the fans who hold this band in such high regard."

Kmita mentioned that while Burwood Square "cannot change the past" they are "dedicated to celebrating this significant part of their story." Leon added that his team was "devoted to making this right" and planned to salvage materials from the demolition site and honor the important property by establishing a "special space" where the rock band fans could "gather to celebrate the band's enduring legacy."

Brothers; George and Malcolm Young both died in 2017. Angus Young continues to tour with the band and announced a US and Canada Power Up tour last month.
