A woman has filed a lawsuit against Sean “Diddy” Combs accusing him of sexual assault just minutes before the 1991 New York City stampede occurred on December 28 at the City College of New York.

The victim, who is referred to as an anonymous Jane Doe, reportedly claimed in her complaint that she and her friend were invited by another friend, who was “a rapper who was prominent in the industry at the time,” to attend the charity basketball game at City College in New York.

According to the lawsuit, Doe mentioned that she convinced a security guard to let her and her friend in early as the crowd outside became uncontrollable. She said they couldn’t locate their friend when they entered the venue.

She was later introduced to Diddy in a makeshift dressing room. Diddy then allegedly took her excited friend to meet some celebrity guests while she waited in the other room, where the alleged assault happened after she was handed a drink. She added Diddy’s bodyguard kept a watch on the other side of the door.

In her lawsuit, she further claimed that Combs threatened her not to tell anyone, including her rapper friend, about the incident as "people can come up missing." She left the venue with her friend.

The woman also mentioned in the suit that the scene outside was chaotic, and people ran in every direction. So, what happened at the NYC stampede?

Details about the 1991 NYC stampede explored

According to the reports, at least nine people were killed and 29 others were injured at the infamous New York City stampede in 1991 that took place during a charity basketball event at the gymnasium of the City College.

The ill-fated event was co-sponsored by then up-and-coming producer, Sean “Puffy” Combs and Heavy D aka Dwight Myers. The game featured many hip-hop celebrities who aimed to raise funds during the event. It attracted more than 5,000 attendees to a venue that could only accommodate 2,300.

What did the other lawsuit filed by a woman against Diddy claim?

A woman named LaTroya Grayson, who hails from Oklahoma, has filed another lawsuit against Diddy claiming that she was raped by Combs during the “White Party” hosted by the rapper on Oct. 16, 2006.

Grayson who was 23 at that time alleged that she and her half-sibling won a radio contest that offered an all-expenses-paid trip to NYC for Diddy’s “White Party”, later rebranded as “Black Party.”

She mentioned that she and her half-sibling checked into the Roger Smith Hotel before they were driven to the venue. The lawsuit stated that she along with other contest winners were given entry based on their “appearance and attire, though her half-sibling was denied entry.”

She claimed she was offered a few drinks by a waitress which after consuming she felt unwell and found herself at a medical centre. She mentioned she couldn’t recollect how she got there and woke up in a disorganized state with her belongings missing.

She was then flown back home and was threatened through phone calls which warned her against taking any legal action, “because Combs was a ‘celebrity’ and that [Grayson] would ‘just be wasting her time,” a report in TMZ stated.

She reportedly sued Diddy for $15 million.

Diddy’s attorney has however denied such claims. According to a statement to USA Today, he said,

"Mr. Combs has never sexually assaulted anyone or engaged in sex trafficking. Ms. Grayson admits she has no memory of the events alleged in her complaint, does not know who was supposedly involved, and has never spoken to Mr. Combs.”

As far as the 1991 New York Stampede case is considered, reports stated that the lawsuit demanded a jury trial. It seeks compensatory damages for her injuries and emotional distress, punitive damages, coverage of her legal fees, seizure of assets, and additional relief by the court.

Sean Combs is currently awaiting his trial on serious charges, including racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation for prostitution. His trial start date is set for May 5, 2025.
