Popular talk show host Wendy Williams might not be able to appear on The View amidst her ongoing struggles with her health. This would have been her return to daytime television after June 2022. Williams last appeared on the talk show in the year 2019 where she spoke about her personal life.
The outgoing and bold daytime talk show host was anticipated to appear on The View, this week after a long time. However, according to a recent article by Newsweek reported that Williams is hospitalized and might not be able to attend the show.
According to Newsweek, Williams dropped a note to paparazzi, calling for help, from her assisted living facility on Monday.
Wendy William's hospitalization and health struggles
In recent years, Williams has faced many health challenges. She has been struggling with Graves' disease and lymphedema.
While there have been some recent cognitive concerns, a report by the Hollywood Reporter mentions that Williams was diagnosed with dementia in 2023.
She had publicly confirmed her diagnosis according to CBS. Her documentary titled Where is Wendy Williams which was recently released in February disclosed that Williams has been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and primary progressive aphasia. These conditions often impact her cognitive abilities, comprehension abilities, and speech.
After Williams dropped a note to photographers crying for help from her assisted living facility, the police reached the spot for a wellness check and to take care of the situation. Williams was assisted by the officers who took her to the ambulance. The New York Police took the situation as a routine service call and did not proceed with any investigation.
Williams has been vocal about her dissatisfaction with her legal guardianship and living facility. She was put in the facility in the year 2022 and her finances were frozen on account of financial mismanagement.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Williams reached out to the Breakfast Club, a popular morning radio show in New York with the motive of explaining what exactly happened a day before. Williams expressed her frustration regarding her guardianship and said that she feels like she is living in a prison.
Williams was called in again on Tuesday by the Breakfast Club accompanied by Ginalisa Monterroso from Connect Care Advisory Group. The group offers assistance to senior citizens to navigate through health care. She said that she told the officers that she wasn't incapacitated and that she had been accused.
“I told them, ‘I am not incapacitated,’” Williams said that she told YNYPD officers. “You know, as I’ve been accused, and the floor that I live on is the memory unit — the people who live there don’t remember anything, unlike me. Like, why am I here? What is going on? It’s a cry for help.”
Monterroso demanded an independent medical evaluation in William's case. She also said that she has sent a letter to Adult Protective Services, requesting a thorough investigation of William's 'troubled living situations'. Monterroso explained in the talk show how she coordinated with Wendy and called the police.
“Yesterday morning, during our morning call, I said toWendy, ‘We will be calling the police and we will be speaking to police, and we were telling them that you are isolated.’ We have a guardian telling the whole building and the world she’s incapacitated.”
Williams's lawyer Morrissey also drove from Long Island to New York. Because of the difference of opinions between William and her guardian, tests were also conducted which were all cleared by Williams. Authorities are still evaluating the entire situation.
While it remains undecided as to what will happen to William's conservatorship and housing, she did mention on Tuesday in the talk show that will call The View on Friday.
