Acclaimed author Jillian Lauren was recently shot and apprehended by the LAPD (Los Angeles Police Department). She was later booked for attempted murder after she initially refused to drop the weapon she was holding while the police personnel were searching for hit-and-run suspects in her LA neighborhood.
Jillian Lauren is the wife of Weezer’s longtime bassist, Scott Shriner. The couple resides in Los Angeles with two adopted children and two dogs. Shriner, who has a net worth of around $10 million (according to Celebrity Net Worth), married Lauren in 2005 in Hawaii, and they have been together for almost two decades.
Years before meeting Scott, Jillian dropped out of NYU theater school when she was 18. According to her book Some Girls: My Life in a Harem, Jillian Lauren spent the next 18 months at the harem of Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei. In her 2010 memoir, she detailed her experiences, including how she was tricked by a “casting director."

Lauren continued sharing her story through another autobiographical account, Everything You Ever Wanted, which came out five years after Some Girls. In her second memoir, the NYT best-selling author recounted her years after escaping the harem and meeting her husband, Scott. It also focuses on the couple’s decision to adopt.
Jillian Lauren was also adopted as a child, and after she and her husband weren’t able to conceive, they chose the path of adoption. The book also explores the author’s struggles with addiction and how she lost a close friend to drugs. Lauren also touched upon her motherhood and initial efforts to get pregnant.
In a 2015 interview with The Rumpus, Jillian Lauren talked about adopting Tariku, her older son,
“For a long time, I [Jillian] really felt like I needed to be pregnant. Having been adopted, I never was around someone who looked like me. I felt like I needed a pregnancy to feel this primal connection to the earth."
She added,
"But what I found was that I received that feeling of connection and belonging through Tariku, and also through the other families in the adoption community who we’ve met on this journey.”
Years after adopting Tariku, Scott and Jillian adopted their second child, Jovi.
Apart from writing two memoirs, Jillian Lauren authored Pretty and a true crime book, Behold the Monster: Facing America’s Most Prolific Serial Killer. The latter was based on letters and interviews of the author with a serial killer named Samuel Little. Her investigative work and conversations with Little were also the subject of Starz’s docuseries Confronting a Serial Killer.

Police officers were chasing down hit-and-run suspects from an incident on the 134 freeway. According to KTLA 5, at least one suspect fled on foot and was being located by the authorities. During the search in the LA neighborhood where Lauren and her family reside, officers entered their home’s front yard.
The author reportedly came out of her house holding a handgun. Per LAPD’s press release,
“The officers ordered [Jillian] Shriner to drop the handgun numerous times; however, she refused. Shriner then pointed the handgun at the officer, and an Officer-Involved shooting occurred.”
Lauren was shot, and she retreated to her home. According to KTLA 5, the author then came out with her babysitter, and police took both into custody. Lauren was hospitalized and was later released with her babysitter after police couldn’t establish any connection with the hit-and-run case.
According to The New York Post, Jillian Lauren Shriner was later booked by the LAPD for attempted murder.
