Olivia Hussey, who is most remembered for playing Juliet in the 1968 adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, died on Dec. 27, 2024, at 73. Though there is no official announcement regarding the cause of death, there have been speculations that it was caused due to cancer.

Olivia’s death was made public through an Instagram post shared by her account. The caption stated:

"It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Olivia Hussey Eisley, who went peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones"

Olivia Hussey met her second husband, the Japanese singer Akira Fuse when she went to Japan for a commercial shoot in the late 1970s. Akira Fuse is a renowned Japanese actor and writer, born in Tokyo.

He is famous for his work in Kore ga Seishun Da! (1966), A Small Handful of Happiness (2010), and the video game-inspired film Kamen Rider: Battride War which was released in 2013.

The pair married in 1980 and were married for nine years, until their divorce in 1989. They had a son, Maximillian Fuse.

Before her marriage with Fuse, Hussey was first married to Dean Paul Martin, son of Rat Pack legend Dean Martin. The couple married in 1971 when Hussey was only 20. They had one son, Alexander Gunther Martin, together.

Although Hussey divorced Dean Paul Martin in 1978, they remained on good terms until his premature death in a plane crash in 1987 as per Hollywood Life.

Following her divorce from Akira Fuse, Hussey eventually married musician David Glen Eisley. Eisley is known for playing in rock bands, including Giuffria, and for co-writing Sweet Victory. Eisley and Hussey married in 1992 and later had a daughter named India Eisley. The couple were married for over 30 years until her death.

Olivia Hussey's legacy as an actor

Olivia was born in 1951 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to an Argentine tango singer Andrés Osuna, and a British mother Joy Hussey. Per E! News, she grew up mostly in England, beginning her acting career in stage productions as a teenager before appearing on the TV show Drama 61-67.

She came to prominence as a 15-year-old, when she played Juliet in Franco Zeffirelli’s Romeo and Juliet. The movie won two Oscars, and both Olivia Hussey and her co-star, Leonard Whiting, received Golden Globes for their work.

Throughout her career Olivia was a part of notable movies including the 1974 horror classic Black Christmas, the 1977 miniseries Jesus of Nazareth, the 1979 film Death on the Nile, and the 1990 adaptation of Stephen King’s It.

From the late 1990s to the 2000s, she provided her voice for projects like Batman Beyond and Star Wars: The Old Republic. Her last role was in the 2015 movie Social Suicide in which she reconnected with Leonard Whiting, playing the role of the parents of her real-life daughter India.
